Why have so few Republicans criticized the "torture" ?
Surely they have heard about it or read about it? But they seem to be too intimidated to speak up? Maybe they are afraid Rush will ridicule them as "liberal sympathizers"? Maybe they agree with it? Maybe they believe that is the way to fight this war? Maybe they are afraid of the truth? Maybe they are all sick humans with depraved souls that think we are under such threat that we must torture these people in order to protect our Homeland? Whatever, the silence is very disturbing.

2. Right Wing Republicans love Authority Figures.
I don't fully get the attraction either. However, I've tripped over them in my service within The US Army. Not many, but still, these "whatever authority says, is correct" type people are IMO incurable and morally depraved.

Something, somewhere went amiss, and as a consequence, they have lost all semblance of a moral compass.

4. that's, "whatever a BANANA REPUBLICAN authority says, is correct"
ok, there are a few who really will believe ANY authority figure, but the vast majority of authority suck-ups somehow found a way to have a different approach when clinton when he was president.

8. That's because Clinton led by "consensus" OFTEN within his staff ...

He wasn't a knuckle dragging kind of leader. Although he had enjoyed profound leadership and power, he did not use fear and coercion to convince the populace to approve his goals.

People who love "authority figures" only adore those who exude an "all knowing - we are better than them" type of polarizing leadership.

Something went very wrong with these folks, for they are venting their emotional pain by harming "the other" and considering those and those who think (and sometimes look) like them as belonging to a SUPERIOR stock, than mere Savages, i.e., represented by "all others."

Authoritarian leaders take the "US versus THEM" to the Nth degree. Dear Leader is The Poster Child of the classic "Authoritarian Leader." :scared:

BTW, I don't care MUCH for the Corporate Loving DLC but I know they would not have us in Perpetual Wars, and that, if nothing else, will keep me voting for them. However, I'd like to see more Progressive Democrats in The Congress of our future.

ON EDIT: Thank you for asking. I should have clarified that Authoritarian Loving persons only admire those who "pump them up" while pushing "all others" down. To feel strong you have to oppress others type authority is the attraction. :hi:

5. They are small, frightened people.

Having the ability to torture people makes them feel strong and powerful. If a prisoner who represents (whether accurately or not) a group of people who harmed the U.S. was treated within accepted international norms of humane behavior, they would see this as a sign of unacceptable weakness. Therefore they have set up a false dichotomy: you either torture "the enemy" or you are a weak appeaser who doesn't oppose terrorism.

But only weak people torture.

7. I think by nature Repub/Cons are self-centered and
could care less about others or the enviroment as a whole. And it revolves around money and power.

9. Here was my take on that.
small snip from longer rant...

Bush and the Republicans know, as every dictator and oppressive regime through history knew, that TRUTH DOESN'T MATTER. All you need is fodder to support your position. If you "catapult" enough of that propaganda, you will get your way. If you add the number of people who know better than to believe you, but will say that they do because it also supports their position and power, to the number of people who will believe the "facts" that they hear the most and the loudest, you will get enough support. Every Republican in congress knows that torture is wrong. But the incredible power of controlling the debate at the tilt of a waterboard causes them to claim exactly the opposite.
