Flashback: Rumsfeld Likens Chavez to Hitler (Feb 2006)
QUOTE:

The secretary (Rumsfeld) acknowledged that “we’ve seen some populist leadership appealing to masses of people in those countries. And elections like Evo Morales in Bolivia take place that clearly are worrisome.”

“I mean, we’ve got Chavez in Venezuela with a lot of oil money,” Rumsfeld added. “He’s a person who was elected legally — just as Adolf Hitler was elected legally — and then consolidated power and now is, of course, working closely with Fidel Castro and Mr. Morales and others.”

Where were all the US-based pundits and politicians of all flavors decrying Rumsfeld's statement? Chirp, chirp.

I'd say Chavez in making the devil joke (and it was obviously a joke about the state of their relations) was merely repaying the US administration in kind - except that he has yet to engineer an attempted overthrow of the Bush regime, as the latter did to him in 2002. Chavez has yet to recognize an American dictator who kidnaps and attempts to replace Bush, as Bush did to him. Chavez has yet to engineer a lock-out of American oil facilities. The corporate-owned media in the US have yet to attack Bush and call for his ouster, with Chavez cheering it on. Why, Chavez has not even implied that Bush wasn't elected fairly, even though there is a slam-dunk case for that, compared to the lie that Chavez is a dictator, when he has in fact won six consecutive elections with the overwhelming support of his people.
