"Biggest deployment of MI soldiers in the fight against terror."
Lead in copy in the Detroit Free Press. This is the kind of bullshit journalism I fuckin hate. It's not a battle against terrorism, it's a battle against the Iraqi's. They had nothing to do with terrorism, assholes! Are the Americans the dumbest people on the fuckin' planet, or what? And this is the "liberal "Detroit Free Press.

1. Michigan has a LOT of red in it.
Aside from the red, there aren't many job options for people who don't go to college . . . and they're signing up for the military. They have themselves convinced that they're going to fight terror. Interestingly, that article has brief snippets about several of the soldiers. One is an attorney, married with children. Just goes to show that books don't always make a person 'smart.'

3. Glad you read the whole article.
I didn't have the stomach after I hit the above quote. Both papers are pretty worthless.

5. We also have a long military tradition in MI.
I was a little suprised this weekend when we were up north for a conference in T.C. to see Civil War era graves in the local cemetaries. We sent men to die in that war, just a couple of decades after we became a state, from all over our state. That tradition of military service is long and deeply ingrained.

The other huge problem is economic. If there's no job, the military looks mighty fine--money coming in, health insurance, more possibilities for your family's future, or so it seems. I know that the recruiting office in my town always has cars out front, and it's not just the recruiter's car in the lot. They're pretty busy.

4. The only fight against terror is the terror of losing to the Dems in
November.

6. Freep is owned by Gannet, now.
So, it's really The Detroit News' editorial page we now read.

The News is owned by some Denver newspaper chain. Don't know much about them, but they read like the family Coors.
