Get out your barf bags -- have I got a song for you!
I am a member of a medical forum that allows discussion of off-topic things. Well, one of our members made a glowing post called "Great Song" about this song "In God We Still Trust" by a group called Diamond Rio:

http://gunbarrelcityradio.com/InGodWeStillTrust.wmv

Maybe you have run across this before, but if not, it will clue you in on how that 30-something percent who love Chimpy see things in this country. Don't worry, I posted a dissent to the idea that this was a "great song."

1. I won't give the link a hit.... WHY
Most here know....having seen and heard similar revisionist/uber patriot/EMBARRASSING sh*t.

Why? Why would I want to give them a 'hit'?

2. No need to give them a hit. . .
here's the lyrics (which I copied from a neutral page -- maybe someone can tell me if they're any good, as I didn't do more than skim):

Artist/Band: Diamond Rio
Lyrics for Song: In God We Still Trust
Lyrics for Album: New Songs

You place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the Truth
His name is on our greatest Monuments, and all our money too,
And when we Pledge allegiance, there's no doubt where we stand,
There is no separation, we're one Nation under Him.

Chorus:
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country's all about,
From the Schoolhouse to the Courthouse, they're Silencing His Word,
Now it's time for all Believers, to make our Voices heard.

In God We Still Trust,
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Here in America
Here in America
Here in America,

In God We Still Trust
Here in America,

In God We Still Trust
Here in America

8. Puh! Poor effort. And no, this is not atheist bias speaking,I am listening
to 'The Hallelujah Chorus' (Which is probably my favourite song), and it is wonderful.

And this stuff is shit.

The end.

Actually, Post-Script, Compare even the lyrics:

The HC:

"The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ, and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever"

= with feeling.

That crap:

"Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country's all about,"

= whining overblown crap that is at the very least a false dilemma.

3. Bleh
I have to wonder about people who feel the need to have "In God We Trust" and similar slogans emblazoned on everything, and run around spouting about how much they love/trust God all of the time. Are they trying to convince others or themselves?

If they don't reaffirm their beliefs daily, they go to H-E-double hockey sticks.

7. I've often thought that
Hence the need to have it plastered everywhere. If they go 20 feet without seeing "God", a cross or some other monument to their religion they might have to actively think about God rather than passively be reminded of him. Perish the thought. :sarcasm:

14. It resulted in them being dropped by their label
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 05:50 AM by patrioticliberal
It went nowhere on the charts. Even the right wing freak country fans didn't like the song.

They are now without a label.

16. They are decent singers -- but damned if I'd listen to one song
of theirs again.

Haven't bought any Country since the Chix blacklisting, except for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Nor listen to it.
