THERE'S a good reason why the four authors of the upcoming book "I Hate Ann Coulter!" are remaining anonymous - they're afraid for their safety. "None of us want our real names in the hands of gun-toting, abortion clinic-bombing, self-proclaimed 'wing nuts,' who follow Coulter," one of the scribes tells us. Coulter , who called 9/11 widows publicity-loving "harpies," is shown with a devil's tail and horns on the book's cover. It's only the second time in Simon & Schuster's history that an author's identity has been kept secret, the first being, "Go Ask Alice," a teen drug addict's diary, published in 1971. ....
SOPHOMORIC MAG TAKES WHACK
PROVING that NYU can bash Bush as well as the U.N. can, the university mag The Plague, written by students and distributed at the campus bookstore, takes swipes at President Bush. One article lists eight reasons why "George Bush does like black people." Among them: "They get a lot of government aid . . . his plantation is full of them . . . they write and sing all his favorite songs." Another humor article reports that Bush, angered by news leaks on his administration's war on terrorism, accuses the press corps of being "all so gay . . . I mean, come on. A few little domestic wiretaps, and y'all get your panties all up in a bunch. I mean, seriously. That is so gay . . . Now, I'm not talking about the happy gay, like Bambi frolicking through the woods gay, although that was pretty gay, too. I'm talking about the gay where you have sex. With men. Or women, if you're a woman. But that's not gay, that's hot." An NYU flack did not return calls. ....
DOG EAT DOG
TRIUMPH the Insult Comic Dog may be about to get bitten by The Muppets. Robert Smigel, the mastermind behind the foul-mouthed, cigar-chomping puppet, recently unveiled a raunchy routine at Comix in the Meatpacking District in which Triumph sexually assaults an Ernie doll - and then taunts him about having had gay sex with Bert. But the folks at Children's Workshop, which produces "Sesame Street," aren't amused. "It's very inappropriate," one insider fumed. A spokeswoman for the educational nonprofit said the puppet-sex act was under investigation.
