We've changed the DU Lobby

We've changed the DU Lobby to a new design that incorporates all of the available forums and groups, rather than just the top-level forums. We feel this gives visitors a much better idea of what is available on DU, and will encourage people to visit some of the lesser-visited forums.

You can still visit to old Lobby by clicking here.

We've also added a link to the upper-right area of each forum that says "Moderators for this forum," which you can click to see who moderators that forum, since the only place it was listed before was on the old Lobby.

10. FWIW - too overwhelming

I myself go straight to the Discussion page, so I'm not used to entering via the Lobby in any case. However, this change makes sure I will not be using the Lobby ever. Having everything in one place may work for many users, but not me. There is too much there.

I don't use the lobby either. I doubt many DUers do. Which is why the changes work IMO, since they allow casual browsers to see that there are groups other than GD (really! there are! :-) ) before they sign up.

Given the problem of GD being a mob scene while all but a few topic forums languish, I think this is a good step to inch things in the right direction.

18. How about a "my forums" section in "my du"

I use "my du" as my anchor when browsing, but it would be much more useful for that if one could have "my forums" displayed longhand instead of just a link to it on that page (either through "discuss" or through the "my forums" icon). Having both my own latest posts and my favorite forums on the same page would be handier.

The old lobby is user friendly and easy to look at. I use the HOME page to find out the BIG news and then always go to the lobby for the forums. Thank goodness you kept the old lobby and put up a link for us. May I again ask that you NEVER ever get rid of the old lobby/link? I couldn't stand to use the new lobby. Too much info crammed onto one page. I hate to say it, but it looks like someone who didn't know how to make more than one web page and they put everything they have on one page. I see that all over the InternetS and DU is better than that. Old lobby WAS perfection.

I like it a lot. The big forums are on top where they should be and I can find my other favorites. The big advantage is I am seeing so many forums I had no idea were available and which I would like to read occasionally. Of course, that was the whole idea, wasn't it? :toast:

26. What I liked about the old Lobby

was that you could see the number of posts - in slow-moving forums and groups, you'd know right
away if there were any new posts you should look at. I miss that.

A button at the top of the old lobby page to see the list as is presented now in the new lobby.....

I miss My list of Favorites, as well as the Number of Posts in each forum and group - I really enjoyed that feature for some reason....

I'm getting old, and the tiny print on the New Lobby drives my eyes nuts...
I have to either take off my glasses and press my nose to the monitor to see the text, or roll my chair away so I can focus with my glasses on...

34. Thanks for keeping 'oldlobby' ... I personally dislike the change.

I don't need to have something shoved in my face all the time to know it's there. While the update that originally made the 'My Forums' selection list better displayed was very nice, I still have a STRONG preference to see the forums to which I subscribe at the head of the display, uncluttered with others. I use the 'MARK' feature and the 'OldLobby' is/was good for keeping track.
