If Dems were like Repubs, they'd run this ad:
http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/archives/001095.html

(sad piano music}

MOTHER:
{holding picture of son in uniform)
This is my son James.

CUT TO:

BUSH:
I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq...

CUT TO:

MOTHER:
James was killed in Iraq last year.

CUT TO:

BUSH:
...it will look like just a comma.

CUT TO:

MOTHER:
My son was not a comma. He had a wife and a son and parents who loved him.

CUT TO:

BUSH:
{at Correspondents Dinner}
Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere!

{audience laughs}

CUT TO:

MOTHER:
Now James is dead because of a war based on lies.

CUT TO:

BUSH:
{at Correspondents Dinner}
No, no weapons over there!

{audience laughs)

CUT TO:

MOTHER:
A war that's made all of President Bush's corrupt buddies rich.
SUPER: Headlines—"Halliburton gets billions in contracts," "Lockheed CEO payout in millions"

MOTHER:
Please vote this November, and send George Bush a message.

CUT TO:

REPORTER:
Mr. President, in your speeches now you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden.

BUSH:
I truly am not that concerned about him.
SUPER: "Vote to send a message. Vote for change. Vote Democratic."

2. Bravo. I like it. Send it to moveon.org or the dnc.org and get it made
I love how Bush's War on Terror makes it more convenient for the terrorists.

6. The GOP doesn't do fact-based ads. That one is fact-based.
You know ... those "liberal" facts? They have to be "balanced" by fascist lies.

7. Why Aren't we running such an ad?
After all the re-pukes have their "They want to kill us" fear mongering crap. Which I noticed wasn't stating who it was paid for, as required. Even my girlfriend the other evening asked me, "Who is running that ad?" A close friend of mine who works in a television station traffic department, (commercials), told me that there are strict guidelines for these political ads. They must show the sponsor of the ad for 4 seconds at a certain font size. I'll be dammed, but the TERRAH, TERRAH ad had no such information. Now it doesn't take a genius to know who the sponsor for the ad is, but if they are omitting the credentials, they could get in trouble for it. Something about express advocacy laws or some-such.

8. Sadly, they CAN'T
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 02:23 PM by MannyGoldstein
Great idea!

BUT...

Roughly half of the "Battlin' Congressional Dems" voted for this insane war - and many, like Ms. Clinton, are still claiming that it was the correct thing to do. This makes it impossible to advertise that it was a war based on lies.

The only thing they could claim is that the war was mishandled - but when Murtha introduced a bill to ask Bush to dump Cheney, the "Battlin' Congressional Dems" fled like terrified pups. So it's difficult for them to make a strong case that the war's been mishandled really, really badly.
