Best protest banner.... ever!!
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 06:27 AM by newyawker99
My wife and I attended a protest at the Ammunition Depot (nuke warheads for Tridents and Depleted Uranium ammo for Iraq/Iran) and saw the sign that says it all!! I wish I'd made up that sign.

Below that is a pic of the protest and the news article.

If you could see how beautiful the area is around Indian Island... the water, the trees.... ... and all that Death in storage! It's near Port Townsend, Washington, and some of our favorite cruising waters. No Navy people in evidence at the gate... just Fatherland Security and local cops. I guess all that site security stuff has been contracted out.

Police arrest 35 at Indian Island war protest
2006-09-24 by JEFF CHEW Peninsula Daily News http://peninsuladailynews.com/sited/story/html/264352

INDIAN ISLAND -- Thirty-five war protesters were arrested Saturday afternoon after 22 Jefferson County deputies greeted them at the gates to Naval Magazine Indian Island.

``I thought it was really lovely,'' said Liz Rivera Goldstein.

She and her husband Dan were among those arrested -- many of them smiling -- and taken away in two Jefferson Transit buses to the Jefferson County jail in Port Hadlock.

All were to be charged with disorderly conduct said Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Perry.

They were to be cited there, and then released Saturday night, he said.

March of 200

More than 200 people marched almost four miles to the entrance of the Naval Magazine, a military ammunition depot and the only such facility of its kind on the West Coast.

Earlier in the day, an estimated 500 attended a Peace and Justice Festival earlier in the day at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum.

2. I love the message.
But I cringe when I see signs with profanity that can be seen by children. I dont think they help our cause, no matter how great the message.

14. Why?
I'm always amazed by people who still think words like shit are more profane than the bombs being protested.

Or really, that the word shit has any impact on anybody at all. It's just a word, like doodoo or shuckaroonies.

18. I agree.
Its just a word. But if a child goes into the classroom and says "sack of shit" they are going to get into trouble. And its not going to make any difference to the pricipal when they say, "but mommie said it was just a word like doodoo". I am not a prude. I probably curse more than you do. But I would NOT encourage my children to do so.
And, one more thing, if you think words DONT have impact or consequences, you are sadly mistaken.

19. Teach them not to say it
Funny, my kids never said those words in school because I taught them to obey the rules of the situation they were in. Of course words have an impact, that's why they said Bush is a Lying Sack of Shit - so it would have an impact.

24. Your ferrets should let you out more often.
The makers of the banner were hoping that the words WOULD have impact and consequences.

28. It's smart to teach kids about adapting to the situation
Sometimes cussing is socially acceptable and sometimes it's not. Pretty simple.

THE ONLY BUSH I TRUST IS MY OWN.

I have to admit I didn't think of it myself. I saw it at a protest I went to and loved it.

My male friend will use:

THE ONLY DICK I TRUST IS MY OWN.
