How much damage can be done to this poor child?
Back story here--this young lady, as a child, was removed from her home for neglect and abuse. Was given to foster parents who wanted to adopt her.
Judge returned child to birth mother...then child was found in closet emaciated (8-year-old girl was 3 feet tall and weighed 25 pounds). Was hospitalized for weeks and then was returned to the foster family that wanted to adopt her. They were permitted to adopt her as her birth mother is now serving a life sentence.
Fast forward...now this poor child has been raped by a member of her adoptive family. This poor, poor child. One has to wonder about her sanity and trust.

A 13-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted and forced to live in a closet amid feces and lice in 2001 has been sexually assaulted again, this time by a relative in her adoptive family.

A 24-year-old man pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child Thursday in exchange for a 13-year sentence. He assaulted the girl in August 2005 at a barn owned by his family, said Leslie Poynter Dixon, Van Zandt County criminal district attorney.

The man is the husband of a niece of the girl's adoptive parents.

The girl made international headlines five years ago when she was found starved in a filthy closet, where she lived for months at a time, in the Hutchins mobile home that her birth mother and stepfather shared.

1. He only received a 13 year sentence.....and he will be out in 5-8 with
good behavior....

Meanwhile this childs spirit is broken...I pray that she finds a family that will love her and show her that not everyone is evil....

2. Unbelievable.
I know the social services and court systems are overburdened, but surely they could have collectively produced a better result than this. The assault by the member of the adoptive family is just icing on the whole miserable cake. While the molester should be hauled off in chains, never to see daylight again, the whole social support system bears a large portion of blame for this tragedy.

3. and people refuse to look at abortion
It's beyond me. How much terror should the child withstand without acknowedging abortion may have been the better choice?

5. Shut your mouth!
Don't you know a fetus is sacred?!?!

What happens to it after it is expelled from the womb is of no importance. :sarcasm:

4. I live in Dallas and I remember this sad, sad story. This is beyond
the scope of my being comprehension. My heart just stops in unimaginable pain for this little girl.

I'm signing out for the night. See you all tomorrow, hopefully on a much higher and more pleasant note.
