Is The Most Chilling Sentence From Olbermann 9/25/2006 Almost Hopeful?
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:47 AM by Syrinx
Keith Olbermann spoke Monday night about something I've been gravely concerned about for some time -- the very ability of our country to survive the criminals in power, in anything resembling the concept of "America."

And so has Mr. Clinton helped us to disenthrall ourselves, and perhaps enabled us, even at this late and bleak date… to save… our… country.

Does anyone here think KO was being hyberbolic with this choice of words? I don't.

But when a person says what in this case seems like the obvious truth, they are soon labeled as an instable "conspiracy theorist." Are there any other mainstream journalists that will follow Keith's lead, and speak truth to the criminals in power? Or will Mr. Olbermann be ignored, ridiculed and banished by those who know better, for the sake of shiny new automobiles and vaction retreats in the Hamptons?

I'm frightened and ashamed of what America has become, and terrified of what it is becoming.

1. ChimpCo is unravelling like a cheap, WalMart sweater.
We all need to keep pulling at the threads. That means you too, Keith. We're depending on you. After November, maybe ChimpCo will be nothing but a tangled pile of frayed yarn.

Then, after January, when the new Congress convenes, we'll see an entirely different country. All we need is to keep tugging at those yarn ends.

2. I still remember what Paul Harvey said
on the day the Senate refused to convict Clinton. He read a letter from a woman in Nebraska, who wrote, 'so long America, you were great while you lasted.' The M$M was not saying things like that though.

You mentioned 'frightened' which reminds me of a recent cartoon - not one that I liked though. We progressives accuse Bush of fear-mongering, and yet we do the same thing - we try to convince the larger public to fear the BFEE and/or the Talibornigans and/or global warming, etc. We only wish our message was carried as far as Bush's.

I have not felt very much fear myself these last 6 years. It has been more anger, outrage, and despair. Every two years I go through a period of hope that our malefactors will be called to the carpet. So right now I have that hope, perhaps based on nothing but blind optimism. I am not sure how I will handle bad election results.

4. Paul Harvey is a right-wing tool

Why should the MSM have said those things about a president that likes blow-jobs?

Warrantless wiretaps, domestic spying, torture, ignoring habeas corpus, illegal wars based on lies, domestic propaganda, deliberately harming national security for childish revenge, cronyism at the highest levels of government. Those things concern me a wee bit more than a presidential hummer.

8. I don't mean to be picky, but I cannot let this pass.
"You mentioned 'frightened' which reminds me of a recent cartoon - not one that I liked though. We progressives accuse Bush of fear-mongering, and yet we do the same thing - we try to convince the larger public to fear the BFEE and/or the Talibornigans and/or global warming,"

WE are doing no such thing! We do not advocate fear. We advocate truth. The spirit of the democratic party, already of good quality, is gradually being transformed so that there is no room for liars, fear mongers, and corruption of all sorts.

If demonstrating the corrupt mentality and vile nature of the twisted caricatures of human beings that have stolen their way into power is fear producing, there's an amazing disconnect, somewhere.

Truth=Freedom

9. It's not the same thing to ask people to be aware of
global warming or aware of BushCo rolling back habeus corpus as it is for BushCo to try to scare the hell out of us with their fake terra alerts. Not at all.

10. Well, I feel fear.
And telling the TRUTH is not, sorry, the same as "fear-mongering."

Or are you against mentioning fire in a crowded theatre that's burning down?

3. Does anyone here think KO was being hyperbolic with this choice of words?
No, I think he was dead on the money and am very concerned that our party has already pandered for too long. Time will tell.

5. One of the things, perhaps THE thing we have needed for
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:34 AM by EST
a very long time, has been a high profile voice. We - and I mean all of us, not just progressives - have been desperate for a voice of truth, a chronicler of the misdeeds of the crooks and a dependable intellect who is motivated by his own outrage at the denials of reality.

Kind of a Randi Rhodes on steroids and all polished up.

I don't see any hyperbole at all in Keith's commentary. Artistic and superbly done but not hyperbolic.

You are so right--the naysayers and wingwits will be out in force. They have been remarkably quiet to this point, with the possible exception of Wiley O'Reilly, possibly in hope that if they ignored him, he would disappear.

To our great good fortune, they were mistaken.

I've felt that way for quite a while now. We're teetering on the edge of outright fascism, or IMHO, a fascist theocracy.
