Rice: Clinton didn't tell us the flight numbers OR the seat numbers
if they had well, you know, they would have moved heaven and earth ...uh you didn't think that they WOULDN'T now did you???

The funny part is that THAT isn't even the funny part.

The funny part isn't even that Rice made this stunning revelation in an exclusive interview with the New York POST (boy talk about going into enemy territory) no the funny part are these two quotes.

- We need drug testing at the White House -

"What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years," Rice said Monday during a meeting with editors and reporters at the New York Post.

Wow way to set that bar as low as you could possibly set it without dropping it. Hold it did I imply that they could have dropped something?

"The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn't do that is just flatly false and I think the 9/11 commission understood that," she said.

Well honey they might have "understood" it but they didn't print it. Anyone who has read the report knows that there is ZERO NADA NO discussion of anything being done (since they weren't allowed to point fingers it appears, to me, that they just reported it that way and let the reader make the connection but then if it isn't in ten foot letters our resident national security expert, with her training in 'Sovietology', just doesn't get it) by the Bush administration. Both O'Neill and Clarke's books make this painfully obvious.

Okay a freebie just for you hanging around to this point.

"We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al-Qaida," she told the newspaper, which is owned by News Corp., which also owns Fox News Channel.

Soooooo uh no one did your homework? Do you only do what you are told and nothing more (what is this a union job?)? Are you an adult? Are you a professional? Are you even paying attention to what YOU are saying?

11. Get your head around this
i heard David Gergen on Anderson Cooper last week and this just was shocking to me.

Gergen was talking about how post9/11 would have been handled by oh let's say...Nixon.

His point was that instead of making it "us or them" worldwide they should have fractured the elements in the muslim world (Hezbollah, Hamas, the other side in the PLO, the Muslim brotherhood as well as each country) making as many "compartments" as possible. Then you play one against the other, take one in and turn some of the others against each other, use them all for information (what counterterrorism is all about), cast one out, etc. Make THEM decide which side they are going to be on. Make THEM fight it out over there before they get together and come at us. The WORST thing you could do (according to Gergen)would be to unite them against you. You want to keep everything at arm's length so you can control it as well as having time to react.

That was when it hit me. This whole "with us or against us" thing was created solely for domestic consumption. There really is NO policy ( bad or horrible in W's case) there is only politics. There is only (this is my take) the effort to create the image of reasonableness in the official election results. The whole damned thing was meant for our eyes and what anyone else thinks is completely irrelevant.

I could go on but this was shocking to me. It might have been stated (the Gergen part) somewhere else but I had not seen it to that point. The other part is just mindnumbing. It is all misinformation there is no policy there is no concern about the foreign audience it is all to keep us calm in our pods if you will.

15. I'm not a bit surprised
I couldn't scream loudly enough about (non) foreign policy during the runnup to the 04 election. It appears Gergen has put it quite succinctly.

They are insidious. My only hope is that we can assist as many people as possible to un-bury their heads and see the light quickly, before it's too late.

6. Isn't that pathetic - "AT LEAST?" Gimme a frickin' break.
:eyes:

They are trying to have it both ways. Clinton failed to get OBL so 9-11 is his fault, but it's not our fault cause we did at least as much.

The devil is in the details. Clinton laid out examples of things he did to fight terrorism and get OBL. So far all I've heard from Kindasleezy is a blanket denial.

13. HartRudman Report on Global Terror handed to Bush Jan30,2001 - REFUSED
Bush refused to read the report.

A two and a half year study on global terror with URGENT PROPOSALS for homeland security and the Bush White House SHELVED it as a nonissue.

That's the FACTS.

The facts the media won't talk about because they watched it happen and IGNORED the Report, too.

16. That first one's a real beaut!
"What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years," Rice said Monday during a meeting with editors and reporters at the New York Post.

So she admits Clinton was aggressive with bin Laden and terrorism, or at least as aggressive as BushCo were the first 8 months!

But oh dear, what words do BushCo and the RW usually use to define Clinton's work on terrorism?

Distracted. Dropped the ball. Missed opportunities. Let bin Laden slip away.

Thank you for the truthful overview of BushCo's first 8 months, Condisleezy!

Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 09:53 AM by Marie26
I'm seriously thinking that 9/11 wouldn't have happened on Clinton's watch. They had such a comprehensive terror strategy, Clinton was so obsessed w/stopping Bin Laden, Richard Clarke had all the resources & the President's ear. Somehow, I think that if Clinton & Berger got a memo entitled "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the US", they wouldn't be going on a month-long vacation.

TREASURE ISLAND -- Employees on a SunCruz gambling ship that sails from John's Pass think some of the hijackers in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were gambling on the ship the week before the attacks.

The FBI is investigating. SunCruz Casinos has turned over security videotapes and documents to FBI investigators.

http://www.madcowprod.com/06202005.html

“There is a weird report just a day or two after 9/11 that someone reported to the FBI that three or four of the hijackers were seen gambling on a SunCruz boat,” wrote a source in Miami. “The FBI interviewed everyone who might have seen them, that very day by all reports.”

Sure enough. We found an Associated Press story on Sept 26, 2001 headlined “SunCruz Casinos turns over documents in terrorist probe.”

“SunCruz Casinos has turned over photographs and other documents to FBI investigators after employees said they recognized some of the men suspected in the terrorist attacks as customers.… Names on the passenger list from a Sept. 5 cruise matched those of some of the hijackers... Two or three men linked to the Sept. 11 hijackings may have been customers on a ship that sailed from Madeira Beach on Florida's gulf coast.”

Less than a week before the 9.11 attack, Atta and several other hijackers were aboard one of Abramoff’s casino boats. What no one seems able to answer is this:

What possible thrill could gambling offer men getting ready to die in less than a week? To this date, their Sept 5 visit to a gambling vessel overrun with retirees remains unexplained.

29. Missile defense focus of 9/11 speech never delivered

Additional articles and ideas here.
http://www.cooperativeresearch.net/context.jsp?item=a091101plannedspeech

snip>>

The text of Rice's Sept. 11 speech, which was never delivered, broadly reflects Bush administration foreign policy pronouncements during the eight months leading to the attacks, according to a review of speeches, news conferences and media appearances. Although the administration did address terrorism, it devoted far more attention to pushing missile defense, a controversial idea both at home and abroad, the review shows.

snip>>

The White House declined to release the complete text of Rice's speech, since it was not given. The White House did confirm the accuracy of excerpts given to The Post, and former U.S. officials provided a detailed summary of the speech.

snip>>

In the speech prepared for Sept. 11, Rice intended to point out that the United States had spent $11 billion on counterterrorism, about twice as much as it spent on missile defense, during the previous year, although the speech did not point out that that was when President Bill Clinton was still in office.

30. Also
October 12, 2000: Candidate Bush Responds to Terrorism Question with Missile Shield Proposal

Hours after the USS Cole is bombed (see October 12, 2000), presidential candidate Governor George W. Bush is asked about the bombing. He replies, “Today, we lost sailors because of what looks like to be a terrorist attack. Terror is the enemy. Uncertainty is what the world is going to be about, and the next president must be able to address uncertainty. And that’s why I want our nation to develop an antiballistic missile system that will have the capacity to bring certainty into this uncertain world.” Author Craig Unger comments, “Bush’s proposal of an antiballistic missile system suggests that he failed to understand that al-Qaeda’s terrorism was fundamentally different from conventional warfare.” Bush will make similar comments on other occasions, causing the 9/11 Commission to later note, “Public references by candidate and then President Bush about terrorism before 9/11 tended to reflect priorities, focusing on state-sponsored terrorism and as a reason to mount a missile defense.” <9/11 Commission, 7/24/2004, pp. 509>

Entity Tags: Craig Unger, 9/11 Commission, George W. Bush

So Bush's approach to ending terrorism was to buy more anti-ballistic missiles? WTF? He truly had NO CLUE.

It occurred long after Clinton left office, weeks prior to the attacks. It seems to me that an alert FAA/Bush administration would have at least investigated the four involved that day, and maybe it would have led to preventing what happened.

33. As much as I hate oversimplified analogies, consider: Night watchman
lets say a bank has two security guards. One is on duty during late days, and stays on in the evening. He works from 4pm to midnight. He hears a rumor that there might be a bank robbery overnight, and tells his relief who comes in at midnight and works till 8am.

The midnight guard gets there, and then proceedes to fall asleep ten minutes into his shift.

An hour later, the bank gets robbed as the 12am-8am guard sleeps.

So, why agian is it the daytime guard's fault?
