PAID to post?
NetVocates --

http://www.netvocates.com/importanceofblogs.htm

"While the negative effect of blogs has received the most attention, blogs also represent a significant opportunity for organizations willing to make an investment. Through a well-planned communication strategy, blogs can serve as an effective communications tool to promote key messages to targeted audiences."

I think this should be kicked and kept out there. They can't win against the blogs, so they'll infest them instead.

1. I wouldn't worry too much about it
All that will do is increase the paranoia around here....anytime somebody goes against the group think some clown will whip out this website as proof that its a conspiracy...Places like this probably aren't prone to manipulation. Too many sharp people on here.

4. We've been fighting creeps like this since they started popping up
The moonies had followers posting as part of their mission to push the Bush/Moon agenda - and young followers used political posting as a form of tithing.

No doubt, the rest of the fundies followed suit, as they usually do end up taking on Moonie ways in just about evrything they do.

8. I recall one of them posting a stupid bye-bye
after over 1000 posts last year.

Destroy America, destroy every coast (sunked underwater b4 50 years from now), destroy the truth, destroy facts, destroy history, destroy true freedom, destroy democracy (here first), destroy the economy, destroy the planet, destroy the UN, destroy the Geneva Conventions, destroy the Constitution, destroy the National Guards, destroy the middle class, destroy the taxpayers, and on, and on, just so these idiot morans can make a buck or two, while their puppeteers (Darth, Herr, and the BFEE) can continue to loot the treasury of their own country without any fear of ever being held accountable in any way...

And who would Jesus torture??

9. Every "earnedmedia" story is posted here withing minutes!
Earned media is the moniker of the ubiquitous Christian Newswire and there is a poster here who makes sure he posts them immediately. Earned Media is paid for proliferating "News Releases" to a guaranteed number of sites and goes so far as to identify a number of those websites.

The poster claims it is "Know your enemy". Not to get too tinfoily but, the posters screen name is also coincidentally the name of a biometric and psychological information service which contracts to the Government, among other things. Just a coincidence I'm sure, but still...

10. Did you even read the link?
It's not about being "paid to post". A quote from the link you gave:
"Organizations would be wise not to attempt to control blogs, but rather to be open in answering bloggers questions and sharing information in a transparent way. The more educated that bloggers are about an organization and its interests, the greater the likelihood that the blogosphere will treat the organization fairly."

It's about taking blogs seriously, and working with bloggers to get correct information out. An obvious case would be when there's a "blog-swarm" because of some recent release of a negative study. Instead of dismissing blogs, an advocate should contact them with additional information that may refute or lessen the impact of the study.

14. I have encountered them on websites
long before I knew that they were there.
They are the ones that always have Rove's talking points a day or two ahead of schedule to get the infighting started.
I had always thought it strange that these folks talked about it before the politicians did. Now we know why.

on over 10,000 posts might add up to something like money. :)

16. I ran into someone on another board who went into details about
their time in Iraq. How hard it was to be a soldier and how comitted they were to fight. He got lots of sympathy. Don't know if he/she were paid or just role playing. You see they explained about just coming home in August (it was September 2005 when we talked) and I said "hey - what about that stop loss order? How did ya get around that?". Crickets. Then it turned out he was gravely wounded and had not mentioned it before. So me and a few others :eyes:

You can never tell who is role-playing. Doesn't matter if they are paid or not. Just the role-playing and the lies become apparent after a bit. Sometimes. One thing to look for is someone who claims to be an expert and above everyone in some field (like being a soldier in Iraq who was just rotated home during a stop loss order). Like in the Stanford experiment..where 60% of the population will allow themselves to be bullied into doing (or thinking) something if they are dealing with someone who claims expertese.

That is my experience.

19. YUP, without a doubt. Astro-turf...
I was shocked to learn the DLC candidate for Senate here paid "volunteers" to show up and "march" in parades, while our candidate was supported by true grass-roots volunteers. So, it happens in Dem arenas, also. :(

The little folks are truly at a disadvantage.
