and actually made it easier for the 9/11 attacks to happen. In the months preceding the attacks, the Bush administration took FBI survelliance off of bin Laden, they demoted Richard Clarke, the formost authority on Al Qaeda and terrorism, and disbanded the terrorism task force and put Cheney in charge. He did nothing but schmooze with the energy corporations during this time. The Bush administration gave $30 million to the Taliban around February 2001 and also lifted restrictions, making it easier for terrorist groups to launder money.
I sat in on a meeting with an FAA official in 1999, during which the FAA official told us about a report that stated that there was a 100% chance that a terrorist attack would occur on American soil within the next 25 years which would kill thousands of U.S. citizens. He figured it would be New York City. I think this may have been the Hart/Rudman report. The Bush administration essentially shelved this report as soon as they came into office. Their negligence allowed 9/11 to happen. People knew about 9/11 before it happened. My daughter had a friend whose brother, in the Navy at the time, had called his family on 9/10 and told them to stay away from the airport on 9/11. It is my belief that the Bush administration needed 9/11 for their power and money grab, and for the Iraq war they had long wanted to resume, and that they purposefully stood down to let the attacks happen. I hope one day this can be proven and everyone involved is punished.
