I fly cross country RC soaring competitions here in California. This is an obscure part of the RC airplane hobby that only a very few people know about or even attempt. Typical models are about 15 ft in wingspan and very high tech. We fly XC routes on rural county roads. Distances achieved in single flights (no motors on these gliders) are as long as 100 miles. Altitudes can reach several thousand feet and are only limited by your vision. And this is a problem. It's no fun losing a $2,000 model when you lose sight of it at altitude doing 60mph down the highway in the back of a pickup.. This device could be incredible these flights. Many times I've entered large thermals several thousand feet up circling with the hawks and buzzards. One time I was in a thermal with about 50 pelicans and three other RC gliders.. Imagine what it would have been like had I had this device and been able to look around at everything in that thermal... Got to try it..
