Any body see Kyra and Jamie tag-teaming WJC a few minutes ago?
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:06 PM by Gabi Hayes
in response to Condi's charge that no comprehensive plan for AQ came from the Clinton admin, they played a very slanted clip of McIntyre's from last night, which, while providing a little support for his anti-terror policies, was heavily negative, including a critical comment from Richard BenVeniste on their pursuit (lack) thereof, actually of the Cole bombers.

they then discussed those Predator pix of binLaden, and how Clinton didn't act on them.

but, surprise, surprise, not one mention of the LONG memo from Clarke WRT AlQaeda, no mention of Sandy Berger's famous warning about terror being their main security concern, no mention of the serial 911 citations of WJC's actions/recommendations regarding AlQaeda, no mention of the Gore Commission's recommendations for airline securite: NOTHING that concretely and substantially.

this is another thread in the many that are trying to analyze the media's role in portraying the Clinton administration as feckless in the face of terror, as well as presenting him today as the latest unhinged dem, in the mold of the Dean Scream fiasco

some threads that deal with this follow, but this is the first I've seen that deals with current media treatment of the Condi/Clinton imbroglio, and if it's any indication, all the threads mentioning it so far seem to be, sadly, prescient in their analyses:

Within a week, you had Bush going awkwardly bananas to Matt Lauer, then going apeshit in a press conference, where he angrily defended the use of torture. On Sunday, a peeved Clinton defended vigorously his record on a tricked interview at Fox News.

Can you guess what the media chose as their headlines?

"Clinton goes mad

Clinton loses it

Is there political cost in Clinton's Fox fire?

Bubba out of control

Bill Clinton Gets Fiery With Fox

Bill Clinton's Fox News Meltdown

Bill Clinton's furious rant

Clinton gets combative on TV

3:03 CDT Edit:
I just saw CNN Headline News show only the Condi response to Clinton's accusation, including ONLY her accusation that Clinton didn't give them any sort of plan. did they include any of the above material? what do you think?

3. and, like the current junta, the most amazing thing is that, as bad as
they are, with no conceivable way to get worse, they top (or lower, depending on perspective)themselves with each latest outrage.

this bit with those two CNN hacks today merely confirms the discussion here: they're either astoundingly lazy, or have a clear agenda in favor of those in power. I'd say the mix is about 30/70 lazy vs. lapdog, but why quibble? the effect is the same

2. WJC's socks
In all of the seriousness of the debate all I heard them talking about was why Clinton didn't pull up his socks. OMG, we need a media revolution. Thank God herself for the internets!

4. What would a Gore-Clinton vs. Bush-Cheney debate on anti-terrorism...
...look like? Like shooting little Bush-Cheney fish in a barrel. Without the corporate media machine to do their bidding, Team Bush would be dead in the water.

5. speaking of which: WHY has their testimony been kept under wraps?
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 02:46 PM by Gabi Hayes
their 911 commission testimony, that is?

and Bush is refusing to respond to questions regarding whether they met AT ALL about AlQaeda between his inaugural and 911, claiming that he doesn't want to engage in finger pointing.

that makes ZERO sense, because if he makes known how many meetings they had, it has nothing at all to do with any other administration, does it?

media just lets him skate, time after time

7. Ben-Veniste said something about the commission voting to...
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:50 PM by Fridays Child
...keep everything under wraps for five years. I think he voted against it but was out-voted. It was, clearly, a move to protect Bush. Part of what was supposed to be kept quiet was the information Ben-Veniste aired last night about Bush's failure to go after the Taliban, when Bin Laden was determined to have been responsible for the Cole bombing. According to Bush, nobody told him that the U.S. had previously warned the Taliban that they would come under fire for harboring Bin Laden. (!)

10. I know. I'm one of those who holds the M$M more accountable for
what's happened than even those who are in power

if they'd done even a fleeting approximation of the job as fourth estate, none of this would have happened, from the Iraq Invasion, to 911, to the election theft, to the election coverage itself, back as far as the non-coverage of Iran/Contra, during which the only journalists who tried to cover it were FIRED, prime example of this being Robert Parry.

12. funny....kyra mentioned the clinton Predator drones, but 'forgot' this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2227375

Newsweek reported that "In the months before 9/11, the U.S. Justice Department curtailed a highly classified program called 'Catcher's Mitt' to monitor al-Qaida suspects in the United States."

Additionally, AP reported "though Predator drones spotted Osama bin Laden as many as three times in late 2000, the Bush administration did not fly the unmanned planes over Afghanistan during its first eight months," thus terminating the reconnaissance missions started during the Clinton Administration.
