Vice-President Obama? I don't think so.
The guy is getting close to Rock star status. Articulate....Intelligent and Charismatic. He is a assuredly a triple threat but to green to run for President. SO what about VEEP.

Don't think so. precisely because he is so Articulate....Intelligent and Charismatic. He would eclipse all the usual suspect and most of them would not stand for a VEEP who was a more attractive candidate than they are.

But here is a wrinkle. What about Clinton-Obama. Note that I am not a huge fan of HRC and probably would not vote for her in a primary...I really don't think she can win because of the way the early primaries and caucuses are ordered. It still early and she could suprise...I just don't see it yet.

But here is the thing If she winds up with the nomination. Falwell is right it will assuredly rally their base. SO what is the counter? Rally our base with the first African-American VP nominee. Voter enthusiasm will assuredly be as great for Obama as it would for the anti-Hillary bump that will come. If the bumps offset eachother......Wow.

This is the only scenario I see where Obama is offered the VP and could accept.

Thoughts?

18. Of course Falwell is right on this
Doe anyone doubt that Hilary Clinton at the top of the ticket would not motivate the fundies to get out the vot anyway they can. I am not saying I ike it, but it is the reality.

And btw, I am nering my 3,00th post here since 2002. And I will put my deomcritc pedigree up against anybodies. Dare to compare?

22. wow
Ok lessee.

My Parents grew up in middle Georgia in the mid fifties. Hardly a liberal bastion that prepared them for their transformation you are about to see:

Dad was an Ivy-leaguer. He was a friend of Schwerner as in Goodman Cheney and Schwerner.Dad did a tour with the freedom-riders in Mississippi.

I was nearly two when we heard Martin's I have a dream speech.

When Martin was killed my dad spent three days and nights in Newark trying to help ease so much anger and pain.

Three years later my mom was president of the State League of Women Voters and was a national coordinator for NOW.

I was marching on Washington when I was 12. I marched War in Vietnam when protests could move the nation. I worked on my first presidential campaign in 1968

I spent well over a year building houses for Habitat in Americus.
I locked arms with Marty Sheen and was arrested at Groton and at Fort Benning along with my siblings.

I have Registered over 3,000 people to vote in the last ten years.

I am as fundamentally blue as they come.

And I will say it again Falwell will energize the GOP to demonize Hillary and they will get out in droves to defeat her. Simply stating a fact does not make me a republican.

thats not the point...
Remember all those sheeple that said I was voting for the one most likley to be elected? Remember the crap that was spewed during The Mondale/Feraro (sp) ticket? Now that the counrty is even more divided. Just look at what Falwell said...

My point is this...any other woman beside Hillary....please...I love the Clintons, but this would not work!

Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 03:45 PM by China_cat
not as a VP candidate but as one for pres. Not carrying a lot of negative political baggage, he's a Democrat but...he also appeals to the moderate republicans who are starting to look elsewhere for leadership but do not want to go with a 3rd party candidate or one of the 'old guard' democrats who seem to be distasteful even to their own party. And he's light enough to qualify as acceptable.

15. I think that that may have a lot to do with it.
I really doubt the 'party of inclusion' would have many votes for somebody the shade of Al Sharpton (even if he could keep his mouth shut) but they've been desensitized to color by the roles Colin Powell and Condi Rice have played in this administration so that African-American is ok, just as long as he doesn't look too much like it.

Sort of like the people who say 'I don't care if you're gay as long as you don't act like it in public'.

12. What has he done to deserve it?
Is he a leader with integrity? I think this is reverse racism.

As far as I can tell, Dennis Kucinich is the one who was right on about Iraq, led the effort to stop it and the 'patriot' act in the House...He is still leading the effort to stop the same crap in Iran....he is a leader, he deserves it.

Isn't it time we demanded more from our leaders?

21. I am hoping for a good non-senator nominee from a flippable red state
I like Obama, but it is easier to slime senators, and he won't undeniably flip any red states. He could be the man for the job, it just means it will be harder for him in the general election.

If Kerry or Edwards was a governor from Ohio, or if Gore had Graham of FL as his VP, I think they would be sitting in the oval office.

if you want Richardson...why not just settle for a Republican? Cause that's what ya got. And see? What a good boy he is. He even wiped the voting machines clean because there was an ongoing investigation into the irregularities.
Just like a Republican...

If you don't like Richardson, fine, but don't even try to pretend he is some undercover Republican. Everyone had to listen to enough of you people claim that there was "no difference" between Gore and Bush in 2000 and it gets a bit tiresome.

30. Richardson is no better than a Republican
I stand by my statement. We surely don't want him as a VP.
Any Democrat that willingly stood by and ordered machines wiped when there was a question about the legitimacy, needs to decide what party he stands for, because at that point he is no longer a Democrat, if indeed he ever was.
There are many stories of politicians switching their stripes because their "kind" (political party) wouldn't be elected in their respective states.
What is he hiding?

35. And many said Gore was no better than Bush
and though most of America had to learn the hard way how wrong that statement was, I am sure there are a few that still stand by it.

Regardless, you are out of sync with most New Mexico Democrats.

Richardson's recent approval rating is
79% from Democrats,
49% from Republicans,
76% from independents

37. Talk about your dynamic duo!
Experience and passion meet youth and charisma. Gore excites the netroots and environmental crowd and has bonafides with the business community. Obama's historic attempt to become the first non-white vice president gets the African American vote out in droves and his inspiring personal story and personal charisma appeals to youth.

38. Funny
But you would almost want to flip the ticket based on your comments. It woujld never happen obviously... but having a fresh face at the bottom of the ticket does not typically buy you much.

Obama seems to to me to be reaching JFK stature in terms of an appeal to a new type of voice and youthful appeal. SUre netizens love Gore as does the enviromentalists, but honestly.....how much does that really buy you electorally. I think Howard Dean figured that out that alot of internet Buzz does not translate all that well in Iowa or New Hampshire. And if you do not win there you are sunk.

I honestly think Obama could have the nomination if Gore did not run. but he would have to pick a running mate with Gravitas and someone who is a washington insider (Richardson,Rockefeller or Bob Graham/Sam Nunn???) someone who is not objectionable to either moderate repubicans or liberal Dems.

The elecorate tend to want to vote for Governors more than Senators anyway.

Dean got ambushed and would have done well. Only the vast right wing hated him.
I like the sound of Gore/Obama or someone to be named later.
Gore had enough votes the first time and the nation is in need of a real leader with a brain.
