So why did Bush choose to declassify the report?
http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060926/D8KCREQ00.html

It's all bad news. Was he forced to release it? Because I could have swore he gave a speech claiming the report would vindicate his position. I don't get it. Did they declassify the wrong one?

1. I guess they just wanted to show that it was only a couple of paragraphs,
but I don't understand, it looks like it was what the NYT said it was. It isn't as if they lied. There it is in black ink, the Iraq War is making terrorism worse. What could they use to downplay that?

2. Because the GOP...
...is putting their hopes in the MSM doing their part in distorting the report and passing along rosy summaries so no one actually reads up on it. That and if they didn't release it, someone else would have, and it would have looked even worse.

3. Beats me. I'd like to know why, too.
Their SOP is to stall bad news until after the election cycle. Seems to me they could have delayed the release a few weeks ("the printer ran out of ink and the cartridge is back ordered.")

5. Here's why
By tomorrow they'll be claiming that the report says Al Qaeda has been crippled and Chimpie has become a hero throughout the Muslim world. In spite of the clear evidence of the war's success, "some people" falsely claim that the NIE says the war increased the number of terrorists, but the report clearly says it ain't so and Clinton's penis is lying again. All the networks will say that the report clearly favors Bushco's position, most people will believe it's just another case of he said she said, and Faux viewers will wonder why Dems wanted to declassify a report that so conclusively proves that they're wrong, but I guess that just proves again how stupid they are. Tony Snow will be spinning so fast that all gyroscopes within 30 miles of DC will be knocked off center. And they'll get away with it because most people won't read the report itself and will believe whatever convenient lie makes them feel good.

7. I don't know if you've noticed, but the MSM has been hammering Bush
With the exception of Fox and some partial hatchet work by CNN, the MSM particularly the networks (not counting Katie Couric) have been hammering away at Bush for months now. I can't remember the last time I read a Newspaper editiorial praising Bush. I mean, there's a reason his poll #s look so bad.

6. Hoping to sweep it under the rug
Someone read a calendar and figured that they could defuse this in a couple of weeks. And the chances are pretty good that they're right, given the reluctance of the major media to follow Bush administration failures for very long. We'll see if this is a nine hours' wonder or a George Felix Allen "macaca" moment that just keeps going on and on.

I suppose there's something we can do about that. After all, with thousands dead and billions squandered, I'd warrant that George Bush's little "comma" might merit just a little more attention than a racist slur.

8. I think he's a moran.
He actually thinks the paragraphs he released contain good news. He is one delusional freak.
