This has been on my mind for a while now. McCain and Giuliani do ok in the general election polls, and ok in the primary polls. We know that conservatives vote strongly in primaries, but that doesn't always guarantee the stronger wing of the party winning because of independents voting in the primaries, which is why DLC Bill Clinton got the nomination for the Dems in 1992. So, this begs the question, since Republicans vote in Georgia primaries to knock off Democrats they don't like in favor of moderate Democrats (since the black-belt districts are so Democratic they know the Rep can't win in the general election), should we vote in THEIR primaries in 2008? Well, who are the candidates, and who should we vote for?
1.) McCain - Not him 2.) Giuliani - Not him 3.) Newt Gingrich - Likely idiot to pick, since Gingrich is the man that poisoned American politics in the 1990's and he would be easy to defeat, given that he waged a witch hunt against Bill Clinton, is the legend of right-wing extremism and slept around, cheating on his own wife 4.) Tom Tancredo - Now, this is the prize horse, ladies and gentleman. A real class-A FUCKING LUNATIC. Pure, unsweetened right-wing crazy. "Nuke Mecca" "Illegal immigrants are coming here to KILL YOU, ME, MY GRANDCHILDREN" - The plethora of nutjob quotes from this guy is pure gold, the only dilemma would be that he isn't likely to win the primary, so we wouldn't want to waste a vote, but if he starts to become competetive in the primary polls, we might want to give him a second look 5.) George Allen - I'd love to see this guy get nominated and massacred, but it's doubtful he'll get the nomination. Turning on the racist-right isn't going to pull off a victory in the primary if the primary voters smell impending doom. Hopefully he'll win, but if he isn't looking comptetitive in the primary, we should save the votes for another nut. 6.) Bill Frist - Won't get the nomination, conservatives hate him because he flip-flopped on stem cell research and couldn't get anything done in the senate 7.) Sam Brownback - This is the most likely nominee other than Gingrich is the most beatable. Compares abortion to the Holocaust, condemns all forms of gay rights, is a real religious fanatic in every sense of the word. Easy to mow this jackass down. If he gets competitive, a vote for Brownback would be the best bet other than Tancredo. 8.) Mitt Romney - Won't win, he's a Mormon, evangelicals hate Mormons, but would definitely lose the general in a landslide, about 33% of the country believes Mormons are creepy in how religious they are 9.) Chuck Hagel - Won't get the nod 10.) Dick Cheney - Won't get the nod either, conservatives would know what would happen
So, should we? Sabotaging the Republicans in the general election by helping the conservative nuts in their primaries seems like an ok idea.
