The People Around You Today
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 11:04 PM by MoseyWalker
are probably nonviolent. We are neverendingly told by the media that this is a violent society. That we need to fear the quiet neighbor next door. That we need to fear those who don't travel in the same social circles that we do.

The people around you, those you work with, or see while shopping, or at the park, are just like you are. Probably nonviolent. Neither you, nor they, are likely to pull out a dirty harry weapon, or dirty bomb, and blow up the neighborhood.

People are basically good. Of course, there are lost souls, but please don't stop believing in the basic goodness of others.

The people around you today may just be someone in the future who helps you.

end of peaceful nonrant!

1. Thanks for this.
I was in Granville, Ohio today where our village hosted the 'first lady'. You won't see this in the news , but the streets of the village were lined with all kinds of folks. We had the W supporters, the AIDS activists, and the Peace crowd all in the same block. People standing up for what they believe in. It was nice to see. The only danger I saw was the motorcade racing down the street hurrying away from what I can only guess was their perceived danger. And thank you for your posts in the night. Many times I read and enjoy you in silent passing. Peace to you this evening and always, Kim

3. I wish it were true
There is violence in thought and violence in deed. When confronted with the problems presented by the prospect of war with Iran, many bible toting Christians will say, "we should just nuke them and get it over with." Good people, people i know well and care for express these sentiments. It's a way to dismiss a problem they can't deal with.

Then on the other hand, if I hadn't quit my job as a criminal defense attorney, I would be around violent people all day. The sad thing is that those exposed to them become coarsened and hard as well, and lose any sense of compassion.

I don't know where you live but there are wide swaths of my town where it isn't safe to be alone.
