Fantastic article on Bill Clinton in the New Yorker
Here's an excerpt:
Clinton sat down on the arm of the seat and eased his way into a near-soliloquy that lasted two hours. First, he talked about light bulbs—their history, their physical properties, their contribution to greenhouse gases, the latest developments in bulb technology. He talked about alternative fuels, ethanol research, the politics of ethanol, the value of tar sands, the near-inevitability of hundred-dollar-a-barrel oil. He talked about the relative virtues of hybrid vehicles and electric cars and whether Detroit had conspired to kill their development. He pronounced oil depletion an opportunity: “But we need to make fixing climate change as politically sexy as putting a man on the moon.” And as the “conversation” veered into politics Clinton talked about one of his favorite recent books, a study, by Harold Holzer, of Lincoln’s speech in 1860 at Cooper Union, which launched his campaign for the Republican nomination. It was Lincoln’s “toughness” at Cooper Union that Clinton seemed to admire most, and which led him to a theme he kept returning to all week: the need for the Democratic Party to “lean into” Republican attacks.

Can you imagine The Dunce in Chief discussing anything beyond Monday Night Football or what he had for breakfast?

Here's a link to the article. Well worth reading. Man I miss Bill.

1. I can imagine Bush giving a speech about light bulbs
See, this is a LIGHT BULB. (smirk) You turn it on at the SWITCH. (smirk) It makes LIGHT. (smirk). Now I know that LIGHT BULBS (leans on podium) are... are... are... they make things NOT DARK. And in this post-september-the-eleventh world (spreads arms) we... these... some people say these light bulbs need to be CHANGED. That means they need CHANGING. (smirks, sprawls across podium, scratches head) I strongly believe that we should not cut and run from light bulbs.

6. Man, Earl, you have him down to a ''T"
You have been listening to too much of Dubya's "speechifying."

7. Nailed It.
That talking down to us to as if he thinks we're as stupid as he is, the shit-eating grin after each statement as if he just imparted a clever or profound piece of knowledge. Could use more petulance though, but nice work with the hand-waving to emphasize the anodyne statements.

2. I read it last week and it is a keeper. 23 pages of in-depth
questions, discussions, and actual conversation with a guy who had the intelligence to actual lead a country. Who possesses critical thinking skills, asks questions, considers all points of view and can kick any repugs ass anywhere, anytime.

The only way a writer could come up with 23 pages on Chucklenuts is if they write "Boy is this guy stupid." and copy and paste it a couple of thousand times to fill the pages. Dumbest. President. Ever.

Clinton interview is a must read - doesn't ignore his foibles, doesn't pander for the interview - good read.

3. And Gore was no dummy either
From all the interviews I've read with him. Two very intelligent leaders in charge. Like the bumper sticker that read: Bring back complete sentences!

knowing what kind of idiot runs this country now. Clinton is a walking encyclopedia! He is so damn intelligent. This is a GREAT, GREAT article and a wonderful inside look at the man.

I had a good chuckle from their visit to the National Museum that houses the bones of "Lucy" where he talked about the bonobo apes. They make a kill and share the food with the other apes. That particular ape is the ONLY one that shares its food...and THEN they all go have GROUP SEX! LOL! He said "such behavior would drive the Christian right CRAZY." The group traveling with Bill just let that one go and walked quietly through the museum for a while.;)

The man is BRILLIANT. I miss brilliant.
