Drastic lowering of gas prices before election is a Conspiracy Theory.

That's what the talking head on cnn's 'minding your business' just said.

He was discussing the amazing low gas prices and how quickly they fell and said that any talk of the republicans deliberately bringing down gas prices to garner favor in the November elections is a silly conspiracy theory.

Why would he need to? Anyone who doesn't think the oil industry depends upon Bush, and is thankful for their world-record profits, and wants to keep 'em coming and ward of "Excess Profits" taxes and/or new regulations...well, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you, right after I cut it up with a blow torch.

Of course the oil industry is using gas prices in an attempt to prop up their boy. It is far more foolish to think they WOULDN'T be. Any industry will do this...just look at the television "industry." They've got lots of goodies from BushCo, and they pay him back with kid gloves, because it is in their best interest to see the GOP retain power. Pure and simple. It doesn't mean Bush himself has to be the one setting the policy or sending out the orders.

they sense that the tide may be turning against the Republicans who have allowed the gasoline companies to gain record unfettered profits with no oversight (anybody remember that oil pipeline that was leaking in Alaska? Will that be shut down 11/8?), and that the government might actually have a hearing (or hearings) more substantial than "Hi, how ya doin'? You aren't manipulating prices, are you? No? Good. Gee, isn't it nice that you cannot be held to your statements, and that you weren't forced to swear before God that you're telling the truth?"

7. Not according to the people I conversed with last night

at my local gas station. I walked into the door and behind the counter was the guy I always have political discussions with when he is there. He saw me and said "So, how's that republican gas price dump working out for them?" I had to laugh right out loud as everyone inside responded with laughter as well. We continued our discussion, out loud, when the others inside joined in while they picked up their bread and milk. All stated that they didn't vote for blivet** and are anticipating the rise in prices as soon as the midterms are over. They are not getting fooled at all by this ploy. Oh, they are taking advantage and buying the gas that they need, but they are not anticipating that it will remain as such once the elections are over.

We then turned to heating oil prices which are falling right now too (5% this week alone). Speculation was that Chavez has them concerned with his offer of discount heating fuel and they are realigning their prices to keep Chavez from getting any good press for his offer.

All agreed that there had been NO CHANGE to the demand or supply to warrant such a quick decline in prices. They are not falling for it at all.

Gas prices are still at a level that would have seemed outrageous earlier this year.
