http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20476747-30417,00.htmlTHE Howard Government is considering dumping the restrictions on uranium exports to India, despite Delhi's refusal to sign the non-proliferation treaty that bans the development of nuclear weapons.
John Howard confirmed yesterday the Government had discussed changing the existing policy - which prohibits the export of uranium to any country outside the NPT - to allow sales to go ahead.
"We are examining all the implications of the Indian request and the desire of India to be part of the nuclear system ... to get access to uranium for peaceful purposes, but it would require a change in policy," the Prime Minister said.
"The issue is obviously under consideration."
