Parents Politics and Thanksgiving Day's Dinner
What is your holiday season with family going to be like when Democrats take back Congress?

1. Oooh, it might be good.
However, I'm still in pain over 2004. OUCH!!! I couldn't even visit them last TG.

3. Let's not count our turkeys before they're stuffed, OK?
(1) There's absolutely no assurance whatsoever that the Reich will lose control of either chamber.
(2) Even if the left gains a bare majority in both chambers in 2006, the road back to anything resembling the level of justice and equity we enjoyed in the 70s will be very long and very hard ... and we haven't even begun to change direction.

This is about the best we can count on.

4. We are the parents.
Alas, hubby and I have no living parents. With rare exceptions, we never got together at major holidays. Lived a long way away, and I always thought it was important to have our own traditions with our own kids.

This will be my third year running to host Thanksgiving for a group(about 14 altogether) of like-minded progressives, so it will be good to be with them, no matter what.

5. We are the parents and our non-political kids
have to put up with our opinions or not show up. The only thing anybody in our family really gives a shit about is gun control and since we're all gun owners we disagree mostly over which party is most likely to come after citizen's firearms. Of course they all disagree with me when I tell them it's the repubs, but my argument may carry more weight this year in light of all the wiretapping, phone scandals and other privacy invasions that the "party of limited government" has perpetrated.
