7-Eleven dropping Citgo as gasoline supplier

DALLAS — Convenience store operator 7-Eleven Inc., is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier at more than 2,100 locations and switching to its own brand of fuel.

The retailer said today it will purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Calif., Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp.

A spokeswoman for Dallas-based 7-Eleven said its 20-year contract with Citgo Petroleum Corp. ends next week. About 2,100 of 7-Eleven's 5,300 U.S. stores sell gasoline.

Citgo is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, and the foreign parent became a public-relations issue for 7-Eleven because of comments by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Chavez has called President Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.

15. they are having difficulty delivering gasoline/light oil
to the contracts they have now. 7-11 not renewing frees them up to deliver on the world contracts they have. yup,no big deal....

3. If you can't get Citgo, then go to Hess
Hess Corporation

$156,250 to Democrats
$3,000 to Republicans
$0 to Others
$159,250 in Total Contributions

Hess Corporation (formerly Amerada Hess) has what it takes. The integrated oil and gas company conducts exploration and production in Denmark, Gabon, Norway, the UK, and the US; it also operates in Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries. Hess' proved reserves total 646 million barrels of oil, and 2.4 billion cu. ft. of natural gas, and it has gained assets in West Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia by buying exploration and production company Triton Energy. It operates a 50%-owned refinery (HOVENSA) in the US Virgin Islands and a smaller one in New Jersey, and it markets gasoline through 1,354 HESS gas stations, chiefly in the eastern US.

16. Do some research on Hess and their relationship to Premier Oil
Up until a few years ago, they were very large supporters of the Burmese government (in violation of US sanctions against Burma), one of the worst human rights violators around. Legal pressure due to their sanction violations is the only reason they pulled out.

Im' very reluctant to give them any money.

5. Truth hurts doesn't it. Oh well, if the US doesn't want his oil
there are plenty of terrorist states and a big fat China that will eat it up. Guess if you want to ban Chavez, you ban all the cheap products sold at the 7/11 that were imported from China too. Ha, bet that doesn't happen.

7. I used to make a point of buying Citgo for several reasons. But now...
I don't want to give my money to that looney.

It's a tough call: The Bin Laden family, Vladimir Putin, Chavez or Bush's Oil Allies.

I'm glad I don't drive that much.

7-Eleven: About - History
venezuelan oil is heavy crude and they do not have the refinery capacity to meet their other world contracts. this is definitely a market supply decision not a political one. i think they are not putting their gasoline supply with one company because of distribution problems and gasoline blends. much to do about nothing

14. The decision was made awhile ago
and formally announced about a month ago. It has less to do with Chavez than RWingers would have us believe.
