John Warner is full of shit! (speaking now on Senate floor)
He says the bill before the Senate represents the best product they could achieve working together in consultation with a wide range of individuals. Says we can't forget we are fighting the war on terror. He also says the President has done his best and that international treaties (Geneva Conventions) are still the law of the land and this bill does not in any way compromise them.

Now yields his remaining time and requests the yeas and nays.

4. The bill lets Bush issue secret executive orders...
...for any cruelty towards prisoners not speciclly banned, and Bush and anyone who follows those orders can't be prosecuted by the US if it violates the Geneva Conventions.

That isn't compliance with the Geneva Conventions.

20. Torture is the worst way to conduct...
...your phony "war on terror". Have any other talking points to pull out? :eyes:

Here is why your flimsy premise about torture is wrong:

1. It violates the 8th Amendment.
2. It violates the Geneva Convention.
3. It doesn't work.
4. It exacerbates (that's a big word, I know) terrorism.
5. It will give terrorists further incentive to torture any American soldiers, diplomats, or civilians captured by them.
6. It ultimately dehumanizes us and lowers us to their level of inhumanity.

More like a war on the Bill of Rights and what's left of our humanity.

22. What exactly is a 'terror'
Can you like, surround it and shoot at it?

Or do you need the ghostbusters to find it for you?

Do you even have a clue what you are talking about? Or do you simply spout your RW talking points while breathing through your mouth?

Idiot

12. Warner has ALWAYS been the stupidest sonofabitch in the Senate
When I was a kid living in Virginia, I always wondered how someone so fucking dumb could get so far. I was naive, of course - because since then we have seen Bush come even farther. Still, Warner is one dumb asshat.

23. They deserved each other
When the aircraft carrier my Dad was on was commissioned, we attended the ceremony, and Warner was there with Taylor (this was in 1981). I walked by her and caught a glimpse. She had the most beautiful violet eyes, but she was a Jabbaesque wreck. I was reminded of Belushi's classic impersonation of her on SNL. She's as much of a wingnut pig as he is.

19. You can't let the constitution, the truth,
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 03:44 PM by mmonk
or anything else get in the way of politics, especially when you want to be a presidential hopeful. That's the DLC way. Run or accept the GOP false framing and shredding of the constitution, but never confront it because its the "war on terror" and you've gots to appear "tough". I'm really disappointed that when certain dems had chance to fight this unAmerican action, they let all of us down. I won't support any DLC dem in any proactive way though I'll vote for them in order to get a majority. I really hate that organization forcing me in some races to vote for the lesser of two evils.
