Civil Disobedience?

For many here, there is no other strategy for uprooting the oppressors. In America, the fight belongs at the ballot box. Doesn't this denegrate those who fought and died for independance? How many examples come to mind of a citizenry rising up with anything and everything to stop corrupt rulers?

Now, we have no protection from election fraud. Now, protesting has no effect, even if the world joins in. The ruling class has effectively silenced dissent. The Czar class has finally found the formula for ursurping all power and enslavement of the non-Czar class.

The oppressors are happy that the opposition is only willing to be disobediant in a civil way.

1. Yep, protestors need to start disrupting the daily routine of

these neo-cons. Cindy Sheehan proved she could discomfit the Prez with her stubborn presence. Civil disobedience is different than rioting. It's usually done in the form of a sit in, where you occupy the office or sacred space of those you are disagreeing with disrupting the days business.

How about starting first with the corporate offices of the media in New York and Atlanta? Go into the lobby of their buildings with signs and sit down on the floor blocking corridors and elevators, and start chanting. Don't let them move you. Be prepared to be manhandled, arrested and maybe even beaten and gassed. Be prepared to be arrested. When the first wave goes to jail move more protestors in.

Also, we have something that the flower children didn't have in the sixties. We have digital cameras videocams and computers to document what happens that can be put up on the internet as fast as it happens.

And media offices should be the first targets. Also the offices of Oil companies. But I have a feeling you couldn't get close to those offices, national security being the rational.

I remember when being arrested for protesting was a badge of honor.

3. Some places would be hard to access, but there are those

that would be easier. I think you could launch some pretty good sit ins in the offices of Congressional Republicans in their home states.

5. I agree with all of that

Civil disobedience is the perfect weapon when the other side has a lot of guns because it challenges them to use them at there own peril.
It was after all Kent state that did Nixon in, and changed the hearts of many americans.
As long as it is totally non violent it works.
And you are right about the use of the internet and the video camera. It has a lot of power.
But the first thing I want to see is the "Red Letter Christians" start it in ernest to shame the fundies into silence. And although I am not a church goer I would join them whenever I can.

4. I agree

Especially if we wake up November 8 and find that, contrary to all pre-election polls, the GOP held on to the House, Rick Santorum kept his Seante seat and Ken Blackwell is the new governor of Ohio.

I'm at wits end. Let them declare me an enemy combatant and throw me in the dungeon without charges. If some bastard tortures me, I'll give cause to file charges.
