Urge your senators to WALK OUT!
It's time for drastic action. The torture bill must not pass. I urge everyone to call and email their senators and tell them to not show up. Repuke senators too. This is insanity. The country is GONE if this bill passes, absolutely GONE.

1. I live in TN
and would never refer to the slime as "my" senators - Catkiller Frist and Alexander.

2. K&R-- I think a lot of Americans don't understand what the House did...
...today-- they passed a bill that undermined the basis for the rule of law that separated modern western governments from medieval kings. They voted to give Bush the power to disappear people into an American gulag system without recourse. Torture is only the half of it. A free people willingly giving up habeas corpus is mind boggling-- we are delivering ourselves into despotism. This is utterly insane!

10. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
You know things are bad when other world leaders call our president "El Diablo". Our corporatocracy is complicit in allowing this gradual erosion of civil liberties. The time of Democrats to be defiant is long past. We demand action, and we want it now!!!
Everyone who can, join World Can't Wait's march and demonstrations Thursday, OCt 5th. I am writing all my senators and congresspeople. I wonder if they will do it. Only Jim McDermott might be the only one who does it.
Thanks for the link WilliamPitt. Great article. God, why are there not more people in the streets????

9. Ask your Senator's staff if they have READ the bill
So much wrong in this bill...for example...

"Except as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3) of section 1005(e) of the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 (10 U.S.C. 801 note), no court, justice, or judge shall have jurisdiction to hear or consider any other action against the United States or its agents relating to any aspect of the detention, transfer, treatment, trial, or conditions of confinement of an alien detained by the United States who--

`(A) is currently in United States custody; and

`(B) has been determined by the United States to have been properly detained as an enemy combatant or is awaiting such determination.'.

11. This MAKES THE LAW UNCONSTITUTIONAL
If the Supreme Court does not want to obsolete themselves out of a job, they need to make a ruling on this law that it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL by violating the checks-and-balances determined IN THE CONSTITUTION ITSELF.

Unless this bill is an Ammendment to the Constitution, this law CAN NOT STAND if challenged.
