We Are Now A Nation That Sanctions Torture.
God Help Us.

House Passes Detainee Bill as It Clears Senate Hurdle

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 — Congress took major steps on Wednesday toward establishing a new system for interrogating and trying terror suspects as the House approved legislation sought by President Bush and the Senate defeated efforts to alter the measure.
The House, in a politically charged decision, voted 253 to 168 in favor of extensive new rules governing the questioning of terror suspects and bringing them before military tribunals. The Senate was expected to follow suit on Thursday, which would deliver Republicans a major national security victory before the elections.
In the House, 219 Republicans and 34 Democrats, many in more competitive districts, supported the bill; 160 Democrats and 7 Republicans opposed it; the opponents included the Democratic leadership and major party voices on the military and intelligence issues.

1. No torture in my name
This Republican government can pass all the inhumane laws they want. They won't be in my name.

4. No, not yet--wait till the GOP Senate passes it, and the Monkey signs it
THEN your statement will be correct.

Pity more people didn't make a few phone calls to GOP congresscreatures up for reelection this NOV who voted for this thing.

5. Yep, so the next time they start pointing out countries
who violate human rights, perhaps Uncle Sam should look into a mirror.

16. Yes, I know - that's why his name isn't in the list.
I'm not sure why you felt the need to yell at me for insinuating or saying that he voted for it, when clearly I did not.

18. Sorry, but I need to praise my own Representative
As should anyone else do to theirs when they do right. We should NOT just list the negative but also the Positive, i.e. WHO VOTED AGAINST THIS MONSTROSITY.

15. That surpised me, too.
I've donated to Sherrod Brown, and voted for him to be helped by the Progressive Patriots fund.

That was before he voted for the Torture-Military-Tribunals bill.

17. Hey, they're just trying to do what's right for the country.
I don't understand why everyone is getting so bent out of shape about this bill. After all, Congress is passing this bill to benefit us all.

You know how we've all been complaining about outsourcing and how they're sending jobs overseas? Well, once this bill passes, they'll no longer have to outsource "extraordinary renditions" because they'll be able to do them right here in the good ol' USA!!! Our government will be employing hard-working, tax-paying Americans to do this job on American soil and they'll be paying them with American dollars!!! What could be more patriotic than that? I don't understand why some people have a problem with this. I guess those that do must really hate 'Murika.

:sarcasm: <- As if it's needed.
