We should all be afraid of our government.
I worked a long day today and did not get in until late. As I read the news about what happened with the torture vote, I am numb in disbelief. I do not know what to think or what to do.

We can no longer trust our government. No American is safe from those people that call themselves lawmakers and Congressmen. They are truly a threat to us all. It was bad enough that we had to worry about the Republican Party. Now we find that many Democrats will not protect us from what may lie down road.

Anyone can now be declared an "illegal enemy combatant". There is no one to protect you. What you say or do, you do at your own risk. The Democrats are not there to protect you or your rights. We have lost our Party and our country. Who would want to be in the same Party with these people? They are our enemy. They are no different than the fascist Republicans.

I am numb. We may yet see each other in one of those "gulags"? Don't expect the Democratic Party to speak up for you. And they talk about a "new direction"? Yes, it's a "new direction" alright.

There were so many names that I respected. I trusted them to do the right thing. I never believed in my wildest imagination that they would somehow rationalize their vote to this point. I suppose we can depend on the Senate to save our asses? Don't bet on it.

3. Panama, here we come. Every day the nightmares here escalate
and bring us closer to the decision to retire to Panama permanently in 2008--if we haven't been sent to a detention camp before then.
