Why the Democrats should filibuster?
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 09:58 AM by kentuck
Because the Senate is ready to get the hell out of town and do some campaigning. They do not wish to spend two or three days debating "torture". They have other bills to ram down the throats of America - the defense budget at the very top. The Republicans are not ready to fight a prolonged battle over this issue. The only thing we need is for a few Democrats to stand up and talk until this vote is tabled. If they don't, I do not have a lot of hope for the next election. I maintain hope that some patriot will stand up and defend our Constitution - even if it means that George W Bush and Dick Cheney are not pardoned for their criminal acts.

2. Never!
They don't give a shit. There are perhaps 25-30 Democrat Senators that do care, but they're overwhelmed by the 55 repub FUCKS and 15-20 Dems posing as Senators.

This bill will pass by about 10-15 votes, and we can go about our lives of being "proud" Democrats. A bunch of losers who time after time prove they are not only consistently beated and bruised, but are too WIMPY to even mount a defense.

And people say our country has so much to look forward to. So proud??? to be an American and live in the country. For how long? We have no FUCKING leadership, and the intelligent leaders like Boxer or Feingold, that we do have are stifled EVERY SINGLE TIME.

God Bless America. I'm 40 and I can't wait to see what awaits me during the second half of my life. If I make it another 40 years in this BULLSHIT.

3. They should filibuster
They would get shut down almost immediately, unfortunately, but it would be the right thing to do.

4. Really, what do you think the most important issue is for Americans?
I would venture to say that this is not the biggest issue on their list. Healthcare, jobs, terrorism, the mess in Iraq, stem cell research, etc.

If this was 6 or even 4 years ago things would be different, but now the MOST IMPORTANT THING that can be done is get control of at least one of the houses

You indicate that if they don't do "this" one last filibuster all hope is lost for the next election. Sorry, but we are WAY past that. When we had the opportunity to filibuster other important issues, we didn't. Now the important point is to survive, and win a house.

This is NOT an issue that will win them the house or senate. In fact I guarentee that it will be twisted in such a way that if the Democrats filibuster it they will be falsely labelled as "not wanting to fight terrorism".

The country is moving away from this administration, and the Republicans. The Democrats have NOT made any major mistakes for 2006, though rove and company have done their best to have them fall into a trap. An example was running Casey against santorium instead of the more progressive candidate. What did that accomplish? You have to anti-abortion candidates, but one has an extremely progressive social agenda, and the other has his dismal record. By taking abortion, OR OTHER WEDGE issues OFF THE TABLE, santorum is forced to defend his record, and radical policies. That is why Casey WILL win.

My point is as long as we play smart we will win.

5. You are correct about this...
"if the Democrats filibuster it they will be falsely labelled as "not wanting to fight terrorism".

However, that is the problem. Too many Democrats are worried that they will be labeled as something or another and they lose the ability to think rationally. Because they are legislating out of fear - that they will lose the next election. That is chickenshit.

8. There is a counterbill introduced by Spector used to offset the
banning of our bill of rights, and that is probably where they will put their energies

Also, I do not think they have enough votes for a filibuster, if they did I would say fine, but if not use a different approach

It is so ciritical that we are not diverted from 2006. If we win, we can do something, if we lose we can't
