Would you rather impeach Bush or get your country back?
this bill can be reversed. It would make it harder to try Bush for war crimes and/or impeach him. Maybe.

Eyes on the prize people. I don't give a rats ass what happens to Bush. He is such an insignificant putz I don't think we should spend one second on impeachment. If/when we ever get power back we got lots of things that need fixing not the least of which is convincing people that hate is not a family value. It will be infinately harder to do that if we are doing to Bush what they did to Clinton.

Eyes of the prize. Win elections any way we can. Once we do, govern from our values, human dignity, eduction, peace, prosperity, helping those who can't help themselves and fighting terrorism as it should be fought, like Clinton fought it, as a police action.

1. Seriously.
I have no idea why everybody is so eager to bring about the Cheney Presidency.

11. News Flash!....
This IS a Cheney Presidency. I actually think his power comes from being able to operate from the shadows, and from behind the Bush-Puppet, so shining the spotlight of the Presidency on him, and making him fully accountable for his own horrendousness might just disempower him enough to make a difference.

Not only that, but once he IS the POTUS, his health (or lack of it) will be a HUGE factor.

I know it seems counter-intuitive, but, this could actually be a good thing if handled just right. But I do ackowledge it's an enormous risk.

13. I understand your point, and it is valid.
But whatever's left of the non-neoconservative faction of this administration seems to be gathered around Bush, not Cheney. It seems like it could go better or worse by a bit, but not much. Which makes me question the usefulness of such a huge undertaking.

Carry on to another somewhat non-intuitive angle, I wonder how the American people would feel about the Democrats putting someone with an 18% approval rating in the President's office...

:)

16. 18% approval rating in the President's office...That's a good point, too.
I remember a day when 1 + 1 = 2, 2 + 2 = 4, and so on. That is no longer so today. We can't just do the right thing any longer without either an unexpected or a rotten outcome possible. Karma has really come back at us and given even doing the right thing a price most would be unwilling to pay. How sad. We can't impeach a President who lied us into a war, killed an American city with his imcompetance and indifference, given us a deficit so high our great-grandchildren will be footing the bill, gutted our Constitution, and ruined our credbility the world-over because the alternative is even worse. Tell me THIS is not the saddest reality yet!

22. There will officially be no President Cheney
because although Bush may be impeached, like Clinton, he will never be convicted. I realize it is the Democrat wet dream, but conviction of Bush by the Senate will not happen. Bush will not be headed to The Hague for trial as a war criminal either. It's nice to have dreams and fantasies, though.

4. Straw dog. We're talking laws of the land and your rights.
Shouldn't bear on the election at all. Nobody's not going to vote for a democrat because he or she didn't go along with bush and torture.

6. Can we only have one or the other?
Call me selfish, but I want both (and, no, I don't want Cheney to be President. I want them both gone.)

I want to have my cake and eat it, too.

10. Two words "flip flop"
What makes anyone think that the dems, if they win the senate or house, are going to recind this travesty? The members who voted for it are on rec ord as supporting the elimination of Habeus Corpus, providing blanked amnesty for Bushco'sw crimes, and supporting torture. Any attempt to do so will be met with chants of "flip flop" and god help any candidate who runs for President later on.
Seriously, this is one of the lowest points in US history. I won't vote for a puke but feel like America has been sold down the river by these DLC, centrist, moderate "democrats" who think people that like torture and the destruction of the Constitution will vote for them if they go along.

Does the Democratic Party stand for anything except getting elected anymore?

14. Do you really think Dems would nominate anyone
that voted for this travesty? An IWR vote could at least be understood as trying to support US efforts at trying to disarm the ME during a time of great global confusion, not a vote for a blank check. * and his cabal lied through their teeth and reneged on the promise to Congress to seek a second UN resolution before going to war in Iraq. There are now mountains of evidence that he can't be trusted in any way and must be opposed on even the smallest detail when transparency is not built in.

15. Harold Ford, Jr.
voted for it. And if he wins his Senate race he will be pushed, like Obama (who I have more respect for) as a "moderate" who would "appeal to all voters". Let's see who votes for it in the Senate....If the pattern holds, probably both Nelson's, perhaps Salizar and a few other so called "conservative" dems.

The other point is, let us say that Pelosi and or Reid pushes for repeal of this. Do you think the Dems who voted for it the first time will flip? If not they will not have the votes.

I am just sick.

17. This is what "moderate" gets us....
squishy ethics, soul-less votes for continued political viability, and "going with the prevailing winds. Sorry.... no more "moderation" for me!

Give me a gutsy, courageous, mouthy REAL LEFT-WING LIBERAL DEMOCRAT any day of the week!

21. The trouble is,
a mouthy real left-wing liberal Democrat will never be elected president. Most Americans' political leanings are no where near being left-wing liberal Democrat. Probably not even most people who vote Democrat.

18. Is this an either/or question?
If it is, it is a black-or-white fallacy that rivals any that regime's propagandists put out.

Not only do I believe that getting our country back and impeaching Bush are not exclusive, but that the path to making America America again leads through impeaching Bush and Cheney.

19. Impeaching Clinton didn't exactly hurt the GOP, did it?
Was there a backlash against the GOP for impeaching a popular president over nonsense? Nooooo. They're controlling the country now.

It's not "good for the country" to let a sitting U.S. president get away with criminal actions. We need to set a precedent so that future presidents will not take this path.
