I note that the following poll was released this morning:
Confidence in Iraq Policies Drops to 20% in U.S.
September 28, 2006Fewer adults in the United States believe their government’s handling of the coalition effort has been adequate, according to a poll by Harris Interactive. Only 20 per cent of respondents are confident that U.S. policies in Iraq will be successful, down nine points in two years.http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewItem/itemID/13306I'd have posted this on LBN, but I can't find an actual story on it yet.
Nonetheless, I think this poll is important for DUers to digest because it sugggests the need for us to reach out now to our long-standing, pro-war family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues and associates, and to ask them how they feel about being among one in five.
I would strongly urge DUers to do this today. It's especially important to be compassionate when someone's core beliefs may be under challenge, and when it is apparent that their personal credibility is under serious stress.
Sure, some of our PNACer contacts may not overtly thank us for openly and honestly discussing their isolation, at least not right away, and some may even react with the kind of dismissiveness and contemptuousness they usually show for opinions contrary to their own.
But is there any doubt that, deep down, any DUer who takes on this task, will always be able to feel just right about doing this?
I think not. Reach out and touch someone.
