The atrocities done to Latin America by the US !... .Is it no wonder
that they too hate the governments (past and current) of America.... Yet they still
don't hate the people...Amazing their forgiveness !

I do not claim to be an expert on Latin America and US foreign policy, but I am educating myself, and so far my resarch has left me speechless.

I have read Confessions of an Economic hit man, and others.
From Central America through South America, our policies has been one of CIA coups in support of corrupt RW dictators who keep US Corporation interests as their primary concern!!

And everytime they have elected presidents who wanted to do good for their people, they were murdered... such as Allende and Torrijos .. and others !!!

Is it no surprise that they are finnaly integrating, electing left leaning presidents and denouncing the policies of the USA as imperialist ?

1. these actions are what awakened me
while ray-gun was in office. horrific history of corruption. our troops were guarding pineapples for Dole Corporation. It's all coming full circle now, the Latin Americas are uniting, the truths are coming out. our karma sucks.

3. there is a relevant movie everyone should see
The movie is "Missing" by Costa-Gavras (who also did "Z") several years ago, about Chile.

4. While Its True Torrijos Wanted Good Things For The Panamian
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 12:45 PM by The Deacon
People, he WAS a dictator. AND he had the bad judgement to keep around a pit bull named Noriega - who is probably the one who sabotaged Torrijos' helicopter, not the U.S. (though with his ties to George H. W. Bush's CIA I think its a good bet he had a little "technical assistance.")
You may be thinking of Arbenz, freely elected in Guatemala in the '50s, who was overthrown by a staged CIA coup after he had "exappropriated" United Fruit (owned by Coca-Cola) land (actually, he paid the value U.F.C. listed for tax purposes) to distribute to landless peasants.
The Bush Regime was also implicated in the failed coup attempt & later attempt at a recall of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela (any surprise why Chavez refers to Bush as "El Diablo"?)
As for the people forgiving us - I lived in both Panama & Guatemala back in the Seventies & I can only say that they frequently observe that the American people & the American Government may not be the same thing.
