I don't know you anymore
It's too bad. All great civilizations ultimately flounder and fail. Empires never last. And the once great and noble nation of America is in a state of regressing down the same path as Hitler, Pinochet, Stalin forced upon its own citizenry. Invading a nation under false pretenses, kidnapping and holding people without judicial recourse, sending people to foreign countries in extraordinary rendition to be held and tortured....and now legalizing torture and a kangaroo court of military tribunals to prosecute those alleged terrorists without allowing them to see the evidence against them.

Four years ago, my beloved sister and brother died within days of each other. I cryed, and mourned for a loss so significant it shook the very foundation of my existance. I feel the same way now. The America I once knew is dead. I mourn for the loss. There was a time that I worried about what George was about to do--but my husband wisely informed me that it could not happen there. America is a democracy. They had checks and balances to ensure it would not happen. It would never fail in the manner that I hysterically envisioned......and yet here we are. And, Hubby is silent now. He admits he was wrong--and most most regrettably--I was correct.

How do you get a group of senators and congressmen to endorse torture? What does the administration have on them that would cause them to abandon their moral foundations of truth and justice for all. When you have become what you abhore, when you fight so hard to win that you abandon your principles--what have you won?

Well it was a nice dream while it lasted.

2. Basically a small ruling class and a large, terrorized soldier class...
Oh, and lots of support personnel...

3. I prefer the term peasant class.
Or perhaps conscript class, which our children shall be soon enough. My apologies to all of you youngsters of draftable age, but if I were you I would be packing my bags and getting to hell out of here now. Seriously...
