I'm voting for Harold Ford, Jr. in November...

Yeah, he voted for the torture bill as well as other dems. So I'm sitting here with two choices. Either vote for Ford or Corker. Corker is a damn repuke who is a RW talking point. Ford is a DINO, but he's still a dem.

The fact of the matter is, I want the dems to win. If I stay home on election day it hands an extra vote to Corker and no way in hell will I do that.

Yeah, it's the lesser of two evils in this instance, but given all that's at stake, it's even more important I vote for the one with a D next to his or her name.

If I don't vote I will be failing my duty as an American. If I don't vote I couldn't look myself in the mirror.

Ford will get my vote. Period.

Yes, in some respects, it is. Money quote:

This is what conservatism has now become. Because of McCain's capitulation and the Democrats' cowardice, this bill will now pass. The use of torture as a campaign weapon will be brutal, and deployed first and foremost by this president:

Underscoring the political stakes involved, White House spokesman Tony Snow said today that President Bush will emphasize Democratic opposition to the bill in campaign appearances.

"He'll be citing some of the comments that members of the Democratic leadership have made in recent days about what they think is necessary for winning the war on terror," Mr. Snow told reporters en route to a fundraiser in Alabama, according to a transcript provided by the White House.

The only response is for the public to send a message this fall. In congressional races, your decision should always take into account the quality of the individual candidates. But this November, the stakes are higher. If this Republican party maintains control of all branches of government, the danger to individual liberty is extremely grave. Put aside all your concerns about the Democratic leadership. What matters now is that this juggernaut against individual liberty and constitutional rights be stopped. The court has failed to stop it; the legislature has failed to stop it; only the voters can stop it now. If they don't, they will at least have been warned.

What you could really do to help is consistantly go after him. Tell him you are not happy with him and that you will not support him if he continues to help the GOP. Call, email and fax and let him know he is letting us down. Keep it up. All the time.

Corker would add to the Republican head count and he'd line up with everything * wants.

Ford will add to the Democratic head count and will often vote with them. Also, I think he can be influenced by Democrats in the Senate.

I'll be glad when he gets elected. I'd be happier if it was a progressive woman running for Senate and she could get elected here in Tennessee, but that's not the choice we have for this election.

10. Tennessee/Ohio, Close races.... look at Sherrod Brown

So basically you've got Ford and Brown locked up in tight races in states that lean to the right. Both are leading in the polls atm. If they voted no, their Repug opponents would be bashing them all the way to election day. Weak on defense. Weak on defense. Blah Blah. It's a pattern they've followed since 2002. Put a controversial "defense" bill on the ballot and dare people to vote against it. If they do, run a commercial featuring them and Osama Bin Laden having tea together.

Sherrod Brown is EXTREMELY liberal. Yet he voted for it. Why? To get elected. Will I trade one bad vote for six years of an Ohio Democratic Senator? You betcha. In a heartbeat.

I'm voting for Casey up here in PA, even though I don't agree with him on every single issue, because on the whole he'll be FAR better for my state and our country than Santorum. Yet there are people who are saying they won't vote for Casey because he's pro-life. The whole "What's the Difference." crowd needs to wake up.

A democratic leadership in the house and senate is at stake. Stopping Bushco and the Neocons from having an unadulterated 2 more years to screw our country forever is more important than a single vote, whether it be for torture, or what have you.

I wonder how many of the people who come in here to stir up the whole "I'm not voting for the Democrat because of his vote on X" are really just trolls stiring up trouble. You don't have to give your candidate unbridled support. Look at what the democrats in Conneticut did. They chose a different nominiee. That's what you can do next time around. Support a different Democrat in the primaries.

To say you're not going to vote for a Democrat is essentially saying you're going to vote for the Republican, and I can't forgive anyone who would do that. I'm done with people either explicitly or implicitly supporting these criminal traitors.
