I hope they fry in Hell.
In Dante's Inferno, the lowest circle of Hell was reserved for traitors, so everybody who voted for, encouraged, abetted, or refused to stand up against this appalling legislation deserves to go directly to the very bottom level. Actually, I don't believe in Hell, so I will have to rely instead on karma. But for those who claim to be religious and nevertheless support torturing people indefinitely in secret prisons without ever even charging them with a crime, let me posit this question: You say Jesus died to atone for your sins. So, does that mean Jesus was tortured to death so you won't go to Hell if you torture other people? How does that work? And what kind of messed-up theology is that?

I really wish I believed in Hell so I could take some comfort from the notion that the assholes who have done this terrible thing for political advantage will wind up there.

6. What goes around comes around, to coin a cliche.
I don't claim to be consistent; I absolutely don't believe in Hell, but I reserve the right to *imagine* etrnal torment for these asshats, knowing it won't actually happen. But I do believe in karma. These guys are accumulating a horrendous karmic burden, which is bound to bite them in the ass in some fashion, whether I want it to or not.

5. I suppose we should be thankful
they didn't care to legalize crucifixion. We are becoming like the Roman Empire minus the brilliance and the Third Reich minus the snappy uniforms.

10. And just look at what happened to both of them.
This may be the beginning of the end of this empire, too.

7. I don't necessarily believe in hell, but I believe you reap what you sow.
Whatever their fate when they leave this life, I can only hope it is horrible.

11. I used to believe that.
Sometimes I try to believe that they are living in their own hell.

Most of the time, I don't think either case applies.

I know too many destructive people who are getting their way and seem too ignorant of general standards of morality or fairness to think there's anything wrong with their successes at other people's expense.

It's pretty hard waiting for the karma that never comes.
