Congrats Dem apologists
It has passed. We are now a Torture State. Habeas Corpus is dead.

It had a good run... 1215-2006.

What a legacy we leave our children.

1. We should note who caved in
and who stood against this damn nefarious bill.

Is there a link to the voting record?

4. What difference does it make at this point?
Stop and think about what has transpired today. Take a good long time to let the complete ramifications sink in and then tell me what difference any of that makes now.

Here's a good read on the meaning of what was "gained" today. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article15143.htm

14. It separates the true Dems
from the apologist DINOS.

That's valuable info for the coming elections.

3. Really
It passed the House and Senate already? It's already signed? I assume the Supreme Court will be hearing a case on the matter seventeen seconds from now.

And that was with Alito and Roberts on the bench.

That decision is why this legislation exists in the first place.

12. Ah
This bill is being rammed through *because* of the SCOTUS ruling in Hamden.

If you're going to be despondent, please do so in an informed matter.

30. Will, I was once like you are now
Optimistic, ready to continue the good fight, see the light at the end of the tunnel, take any little shred of positive, but tonight I don't have it in me. Perhaps, tomorrow I will wake up, put on my boots and continue the fight, but right now I smell the facsism in the air.

I have always wonder in my years, why didn't the Germans get out while they had the time, in order to fight for their country, when they saw what was happening around them. The only answer I have ever been able to asertain is that they didn't ever think it would get that bad. Isn't that where we are now. Right now.

I am usually a very optimistic person, but tonight I am pissed. I am pissed at the Democrats for not putting up at least the theater. The vote wasn't even close.

Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 06:46 PM by Connie_Corleone
It will probably be signed tomorrow. It will take about 2 years before the Supreme Court hears a case on it.

is denied from the beginning? I was warned this was coming even before this bill passage.

18. When's the last time they reached out and grabbed something.
It took, what, five years to get to this point?

And how many more years before somebody with standing escapes from a secret prison and starts telling stories that nobody will believe?

8. I am not a Dem apologist
I just vote for the best candidate who actually has a remote chance of getting the seat. It is still a straight Dem ticket for me.

25. I regret nothing
I will always vote, and I will always look at the candidates who have shot at whatever seat they are running for, and vote for the best one. If I woke up one day to find that Guiliani and Frist were the only people running for President, I would go vote for Guiliani, and do whatever I could to make sure their were better choices in the next election. I have had plenty of people try to talk me out of voting for Democrats, and it isn't going to happen.

15. Why are you blaming the Democrats for a Republican bill?
I blame THESE Democrats who voted aye: Carper, Johnson, Landrieu, Lautenberg, Lieberman, Menendez, Nelson (Fla.), Nelson (Neb.), Pryor, Rockefeller, Salazar and Stabenow.

But to suggest that it's the entire party's doing is pretty stupid.

23. It is the entire party's doing.
There is only one party in this country. Two party system is an illusion. 98-0 vote to continue illegal acts of aggression. $$$$$ is all that matters. They are all, Dem and Repup, beholden to the same corporate masters. Now it is officially over. Welcome to Torture State USA.

Yes it's me Karl Rove! Damn, that didn't take long.

Do you think your ignorant optomism helps anyone? Period? What a joke...

You don't seem to get it. THere is no Left and Right. There is only ONE. And they continue to dupe you all.

Tell ya what--- why don't you call your Senator and ask "WHat Happened?" if you want someone to supply excuses for this travesty. This is so far beyond the simplistic view you have of these events.

22. Once again, Republicans did this
People who think like these Republicans did this. If people in states like Nebraska and Louisiana didn't want this torture bill, their representatives wouldn't vote for it. This is not a Democratic Party problem - except to the extent that WE haven't done enough to change the minds of our fellow citizens.
