Will Al Qaeda leave us alone now?
They Hate Us For Our Freedom, right? So now that we have an official policy of torturing and imprisoning without trial, counsel, or the right of habeas corpus anybody the president says is an enemy combatant -- abrogating about 800 years of fundamental legal freedoms -- will they stop hating us?

Hey, Osama, pretty soon we'll be about as free as the citizens of Afghanistan under the Taliban, so just lay the hell off us, will ya? Thanks, man.

1. Hells no. Pretty soon WE will be the Taliban.
I think they just gave everyone everywhere a blank check to torture anybody they damn well please. We no longer have the right to be outraged when any American is tortured in another country.

None of this is going to stop terrorism.

But they know damn well it won't stop terrorism, and in fact will likely aggravate it. Nope, the whole point of this disgraceful exercise was to LOOK like they are tough on terrorism just before an election, and to back the Dems into a corner by trying to make them look weak if they oppose it. And it's a cheap, easy victory because they all know it's spectacularly unconstitutional and that even this Supreme Court probably will strike it down in accordance with Rumsfeld v. Hamdan. It's all election politics of the most cynical, cowardly sort. All of it.

4. Pretty soon? Name ONE country besides the US that openly talks torture...

There doesn't seem to be any.

And if you come up with one or more: I guarantee that's not a club we want to be in.

6. No. They'll be back in the Oval office tomorrow morning,
just like they are every day of the week.
