We need more than fighting Bush's outrages one at a time, constantly losing ground to the whole onslaught. Real social change takes decades if not centuries. Every significant bit of progress humankind, and Americans in particular, have ever achieved was only brought about by the struggle of millions of people who never saw the goals of their work come to fruition. I don't know if we will undergo a worse nightmare before things get better, but I suspect we will. I cannot live with the thought of my children, step-children and grand children (of which I have all three) thinking that I didn't do everything I could to prevent it or make it better.

So just do something. Go to a protest October 5th. Go to all the protests. At least two or three countries changed their governments over the last few years by basically just standing in the street.

But giving up? That's just pathetic and short-sighted. No matter where in the world you go, the US military-industrial monster (or it's proxies) will be there before you know it if nobody stops this crazy train. It's a planet-eating machine. You will acheive nothing by running but a few years of what you expect will be peace, but in reality will be frustrating helplessness from afar.

It seems to me that many at the time naively blamed some Jews for their fates because they never left. After reading this (and so many other threads on DU the past couple of years), I now see how complex how complex and difficult a decision it is.
