If the Democrats do not win the House or the Senate...?
They can look back at this day. They did not want to appear "weak on terrorism" so they voted for the torture bill of George W Bush and only appeared "weak". Many liberal progressives had a Ralph Nader moment after today. These are the type of displays that put us in the minority in the House and Senate in the first place. Democrats do not get a free ticket, as much as they may wish, from many of their voters. DU is only an indicator for many other progressives out there. I hope our Party can recover but they shot themselves in the foot today, in my opinion. How much courage did it take to be against torture?

2. If we don't win in November, then El Diablo gets away with it
Our party needs to be drilled on discipline around core values. Seriously.

3. If they lose it won't be because of how they voted today
it will be because the 'liberal progressives who had a Ralph Nader moment after today' will fuck us just like they did in Florida in 2000. If the Dems lose the fault lies with those who refuse to support them. The stupidest thing that they could do if they truly oppose torture is not support Democrats in this election cycle. If they don't support the Democratic candidates they are supporting torture and continuous war.

I certainly hope these so called progressives aren't so stupid that they make the same mistake again. They gave us bush, the Iraq war, The Afghanistan war, the patriot act, domestic surveillance and this torture bill the last time they decided to act like spoiled children.

4. Of course...
The Democrats in the Senate and House share no blame at all. They were between a rock and a hard place. If they didn't vote for this piece of shit, they would have been accused of being weak on terrorism. So it was better to vote for this crap than to be labeled by the Republicans. It's sort of like someone with a rocket launcher surrendering to someone with a BB gun. It makes no sense.
