Okay, folks - the torture bill passed. This is what you do now...
Yes, I am incandescent with anger at everyone, Democrat and Republican alike, who voted to shred the Fifth Amendment and the Eighth Amendment today. So here's what we do instead of picking up guns and storming the Capitol:

1. Pester every last Democrat on your ballot slip for their positions on torture and the Constitution. You can start by checking their web sites for position statements. If you don't see one, call their staffers. If they won't give you a straight answer, stay on the line until you find someone who will.

2. If your Democratic candidates for House and/or Senate are vehemently opposed to torture, then block-walk for them, staff phone banks in support of them, and campaign like Hell for them.

3. If your Democratic candidates for House and/or Senate actually support torture, then harass said candidates at every campaign appearance, every fundraiser, every baby-kissing campaign stop. Do it until they're shamed into recanting - and then welcome them back into the fold.

4. As for any fence-sitters, see #3.

5. On November 7, no matter what, don't cast a single vote for any Republican on the ballot. Is Lincoln Chafee running for re-election this year? If so, this applies to him as well, even though he was brave enough to vote with the majority of Senate Democrats against the torture bill. Instead, vote for Democrats, Democrats, Democrats.

Remember New Orleans.

Remember the lies about WMDs in Iraq.

Remember the secret network of CIA torture cells.

And vote Democratic.

4. That's pretty doubtful...
Thanks to Joe LIEberman, The Devil has stacked SCOTUS with those who are likely to back him up on torture rather than interpreting the Constitution.

18. My main fear is that he's pulled an Andrew Jackson
The SCOTUS ruled against Jackson when he decided to expel Native Americans and force them into new homes on pieces of wasteland. Jackson read the SCOTUS ruling and said, "Now let them try to enforce their decision."

And what came after that? The Trail of Tears.

We need, at the very least, a Democratic majority in the Senate to prevent the further deterioration of the SCOTUS.

But honestly, we have to stop these idiots before someone else stops us all.

8. Dude, I am PART of the circular firing squad...
...but my guns aren't aimed at anyone on DU. Instead, I'm taking aim at the Dems on the Hill who sold us out. As of this moment, every Democrat who voted for the torture bill is a traitor to this country - but I believe there is still hope that they can seek atonement and reconciliation with the party and with the Constitution.

9. To all Texas DUers: Barbara Ann Radnofsky and John Courage are on our side
Chet Edwards and Henry Cuellar, however, are not.

Somebody please shame these two motherfuckers into publicly recanting. Our primary elections are way behind us, so we can't replace these guys on the ballot - but maybe we can replace their pro-torture platforms.

10. Right on! And Support Democrats running for Secretary of State
Republicans are quietly stacking these seats with Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell clones!

12. Because these neo-fascist Repukes will never apologize
Their MO is "Might is right, and right means never having to say you're sorry."

Now, if you want to wage a propaganda campaign against churches who support these assholes, I'm not gonna stop you - as long as you maintain church-state separation.

14. Of course it's not enough - it's never going to be enough
But I'm not at the point where I start advocating we arm ourselves and march on the Capitol. I still believe in the democratic process, even if some consider me a sucker for doing so.

13. 6. Send $10.00 to the ACLU.
And you KNOW how much I'm disappointed in them, but I'm going to do it anyways.

Anyone have their address?

17. Monthly supporter? Now that's going a bit too far.
I wish there was some way to work part-time for small business owners who happen to be Democrats, with the understanding that the paycheck will go to charity or organization of my choice.

22. Oh, I am grateful for your sacrifice. Thank you, sincerely.
And some day, when I don't have to worry about having the six figures to put two kids through college, and I don't have to worry about having a back-up legal fund to protect what I own because I live in such a corrupt Republican county, I may do the same as you. I look forward to it.

Until then, the option I suggested would be the most lucrative to help out.

21. Save #3 until after the election.

Doing so will improve Republican chances.

Primaries are over. There will be plenty of time to deal with dirty Dems after November.
