4. I thank them too! And my Senators Kennedy & Kerry
and the entire Mass Congressional delegation (except Marty Meehan who was absent) for voting to uphold the Constitution. I salute you.

Thank you Sens. Clinton and Schumer for what you did today. I won't forget it.

Thank you to all of the brave 34 in the Senate who voted their conscience.

6. But....but....but
(I'm being sarcastic here) aren't they NOT SUFFICIENTLY LIBERAL?

Barack Obama was on the hotseat yesterday, because he "might" have voted for this disgrace...but he didn't!

The Northeast didn't do too badly in terms of VOTING SANITY--hell, Olympia Snowe in ME DUCKED the vote, the Massachusetts delegation said no to torture, as did the RI crowd, CT had the Joementum disgrace them, even NH didn't cave! VT did the right thing, but sadly, NJ disappointed....

20. And this surprises you?
So in Senator Shitslick's book, it's okay for a male soldier to sexually humiliate a male prisoner, but it's not okay for two adult males to have consensual sex? Is that what I'm gathering here? Or is sexual humiliation off the torture menu to ensure there's no guy-on-guy action?

32. The fact that Snowe ducked the vote says a lot about her character
and the uncertainty among Congress folk about how well this is going to go over. The fence is the safest place for someone like Snowe. She can't be accused of bucking the party and she can't be accused of enabling them either.

I'm actually surprised more centrists didn't follow her timid example.

thugs--just TRY ducking out, and NO DOUGH FOR YOU!!!!

Olympia's got enough age and gravitas that she can get away with it--and probably knows where a few GOP skeletons are stored, too, if they tried to get too shirty with her.

Why didn't your Hillary stand up and call it what it is? A way that this administration will never pay for the crimes it is committing? Gutless. She should resign, along with the remainder of them. Not one deserves to serve, not one.

It's just not fashionable to let strong women make the very same tactical moves as men to achieve and consolidate power, you see. They actually WANT her to be Tammy Wynette, I guess. Bake those cookies, Hill....set them out on your Wellesley Bachelor's and your Law Degree to cool, there..."honey!" Keep standin' by yer man...and whatever you do, don't you DARE be a moderate, even if that's the way you actually FEEL. Nothing but far left is good enough, apparently!!

I'm at a loss to figure out why so many supposed dems dis this woman. Her record shows how liberal she is; but, no, she is not going to please every dem all the time. She continues to have my support.

Lucky NY and lucky USA if she runs and wins the presidency. You can tell, I believe winning her senate race is a sure thing.

48. Sure, why not, if we have a majority in both houses, which means we
can SET THE FUCKING AGENDA (otherwise, you can't "call for" shit, ya see) and we have a shot at arm twisting enough moderate Republicans to vote with us to overturn what surely will be a VETO by the Dunce.

Otherwise, your grand call for this 'first order of business' is nothing more than an exercise in assuaging idiots who don't understand how the game works on the Hill, and would do nothing more than WASTE time and cut into other agenda areas that we could accomplish.

Here, read this, enjoy some cognitive dissonance: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/speech/view/?id=1197

Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:54 PM by Jersey Devil
Hmm, then if my senators, especially Menendez, who voted against the Iraq War Resolution in the House (Lautenberg wasn't in office) when Hillary and Chuckie voted for IWR, and Menendez voted yes today on the torture bill, is it "even steven"? Or, did someone call finsies?

26. Ah, But Lautenberg voted yes today, unfortunately (and I like him overall)
But OTOH, NJ split their Iraq War vote...Toricelli voted FOR the IWR, and Corzine against it.

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=107&session=2&vote=00237

Of course, one of my Senators voted for the IWR too, but he publicly regretted it.

I'm glad the NY delegation did the right thing. And HRC did it while ON the ballot, which, even though she has a strong lead, takes a bit of guts. Compare and contrast her vote yesterday with that of the Democratic Senator in FL, with a strong lead of his own....

Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 09:24 AM by Stinkfoot
We know you could have done far more, but your consultants told you "No! Don't go out on a limb!", so you kept your heads down and your mouths shut. Now a meaningless no vote is going to substitute for leadership? I won't go so far as to call for Hillary to set herself on fire, but surely there is something a little short of that. Feeble protestations and a no vote just don't cut it.

36. What Battle?
Schumer and Hillary have only token opposition. Why aren't these candidates with safe seats doing more to help out democratic candidates in house races? Instead of fawning over HRC, making like she is Churchill instead of Chamberlain, let's look at how we can help regain control of the house. When these candidates like her spurn their base, hoping to propitiate the right, they dishearten democrats and suppress turnout.

38. Hillary "spurns her base" so you say. Some say "her base" is comprised
of voters across the political spectrum. Hillary doesn't pretend to be a messiah who will fulfill every leftie's wish.

People need to realize that and get with the program.
