1. To make that happen, I think we're going to need to submit a 27b/6

2. Wow...is that a form from the actual movie?
I hope you've all seen Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL.

In this movie terrorist occurrences are so frequent that part of a restaurant blows up, and the waiters set up screens so that the unaffected part of the dining room can resume eating without seeing bodies burning.

The main arc of the movie is a piece of machinery that accidentally gets a name on a form wrong, and that person is dragged away and tortured to death. When the mistake is realized, someone has to deliver the reimbursement check to his widow.

It's like 1984, only fun.

10. Oi Pachamama!
 I left to go watch the daily show.

I've been wanting to buy the DVD for a long time cuz my VHS is ruined, but it's so damn expensive! Even used DVDs are 20 bucks plus shipping! I guess I'll have to take the plunge and get it because it is so prescient... a masterpiece.

13. Now I know what to get you for Christmas!
The Criterion Collection of Brazil! :bounce:

How was the Daily Show by the way? I missed Keith Olbermann this evening...know where I can catch it on the web? I fell asleep next to the lil one....With all the garbage they re-run all night, its a shame that they can't show Countdown atleast one more time after the 9PM PST.

9. LOL. Nice combo.
Spinal tap would be a nice decompression and mental palate cleanser after Brazil.

The Criterion DVD on that is for sure the way to go.

12. The best 'chaser' I ever saw to Brazil...
...was 1984, with John Hurt and Richard Burton. The orignal soundtrack version, not the Eurythmic one (no slam against the Eurythmics, but the orchestral one worked better). The movie was almost exactly as I had imagined it as I'd read the book the first time.

It's really the definitive version of 1984, filmed in April, 1984 in London, just as the book is set in. And Burton's very last role as O'Brien was absolutely perfect. It was a superlative way to end a career. Gave me new respect for his other roles. (and if you're in the mood for 3 movies in a row, watch "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold" after those two...another one of Burton's great performances, and the themes sort of all link together...).

7. IMHO, it's the "Citizen Kane" of the 2nd half of the 20th Century.
One of the best of all time, for sure.
