Even Though "Control" Of Congress Is Important
I think it's going to be a losing battle keeping "control" of things, even if by some chance the Dems take control by a slim margin in either house.

I mean take every single major bill as an example. There are ALWAYS 20-30 so-called Dems who vote side by side with the house repubs. And ALWAYS 5 or so Senators who vote with the repubs. Now and then a token repub like Chafee will cross over, just to make the Dems think they're respectible.

So even if we get the control in the Senate, which would still have lots of benefits, I can't see how they'll win any bills on a consistent basis, with guys like the Nelsons or Lieberman crossing over with their repub buddies on the other side.

With friends like these, who needs enemies. Don't be shocked if one of them converts, and snatches the control right out from under the Dems.

But I shouldn't say things like that, because they're outside the rhelm of possibility, especially for some cheerleaders here at DU.

Rah Rah Rah! Go Team!

1. Are you enjoying all these "downer" posts?
Or are you in such a black mood that you just can't see any way out of the darkness?

3. Black Mood
Just hate getting kicked in the nuts each time.

I'm just waiting on something positive. Not some poll. Not some depressing but true news story. SOMETHING POSITIVE for our side.

As quoted in Titanic....."waiting for an absolution, that will never come."

5. The black mood is understandable.
Time to take a break from this, then.

I know I'm pissed off and depressed, and ready for a brief respite from DU and news.

6. How come Lieberman voted AGAINST the bill today?
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 10:23 PM by brentspeak
That kind of knocks a hole in your entire argument.

9. Lieberman?
What does 1 vote by Lieberman on a vote the Dems lost anyways matter?

A stopped watch is correct twice a day.

10. Why do any of the votes by the Senate Dems made today matter???!!!
When the Republicans already had the votes to pass the bill!!

You're complaining about nothing. And spreading pointless discontent at the same time.

15. As Never-get-over-it pointed out, Lieberman did vote 'yea'
Apologies, my mistake on that.

Doesn't change the fact that even if had voted 'nay', and all the Democrats also voted 'nay', the bill still would have passed. So the hand-wringing is pointless.

16. You're welcome....
Ok I'm kind of laughing to myself because the reason I know he voted for it is I'm still here - if LIEberman had voted against it I would have died from the shock

I have no idea why that struck me or is making me laugh but I thank you because man I NEEDED A LAUGH this has been a bad day

8. This Place Has The Worst Poker Players
Seems few here understand the strategy and game being played here...and, yes they're games and it's games about torture of all things.

Democrats did't come up with this conveluted bill but were being put on the record to either support this "bill" or be slimed in their districts (most were in either red or purple ones) as being "unpatriotic" and so on. It's like the minimum wage bill with the poison pill. While we all wanted the wage to rise, but not if it meant giving billions in tax breaks to the rich and building a bigger defecit. Was being against that bill mean that Democrats sold out on the minimum wage? It's the game being played here and whose being played.

This game can change. Those 30 or 40 "fencesitters" will swing the other way when the power flows from another direction. In fact not only do I think many of those votes will "come home" (cause if not they'll lose $$$ and power), but we'll have 10 or 20 Repugnicans who will cross over to our side.

Winning the House means not only the ability to investigate, but to also set the agenda in the next Congress and with it the power to not only repeal this crap but then to put the brakes to this runaway regime in Washington and its rubber stamp lackeys. Now if you're pissed at Democrats who voted for this travesty (and it's been a sad day...Democratic votes wouldn't have stopped this bill from going forward) then lets win the House and then, after November 8th revisit who these people are and see if there are bona fide Progressives in those areas that we can help support in 2008.

The end game here is control of at least one house this fall...without it we're really screwed. Taking this one vote...which was framed by the corporate media in a way that would have allowed Repugnicans to bash vulnerable Democrats or create last minute issues that would take the focus off of our main issues...the corruption and ineptness of this regime.
