Moussaoui was sentenced to 23 hour/day solitary confinement, meals in cell, 1 hour outside but also solitary.

From what I recall, there will be no one (not even guards) talking to him. I don't remember if there is no radio, no TV, no reading material.

What do you think???

1. No, that's not torture. Not by a long shot. We do not stuff his mouth...

...with rags, put a hood over his head, lie him on his back and pour water on his face for hours and hours and hours on end while he, like any of us, strains his bonds like an animal to escape what appears to be certain death. That's torture.

2. Hmmm, hard to say

His 1 hour outside a day makes it hard for me to say. He gets out of his cell and he is in contact with the guards, even if they do not carry on conversations. If he were stuck in a dark cell 24/7 with meals being shoved through a window and no human contact in the least -- then most definitely it is torture. Humans are social animals and that would drive a person insane. As described in the OP, I'm not quite as quick to call it torture.

4. No, that sounds like really rough prison time.

Frankly, it's pretty clear that Moussaoui IS a terrorist- he's not wrongly convicted, he's not Osama's Pizza delivery guy or some kid they grabbed off the streets of Afghanistan at random. And he's been tried openly; proof that the system, the legal system, the "law enforcement" system- WORKS for dealing with these guys- you don't NEED secret courts and star chambers and all the rest.

Far more upsetting to me is that we have millions of non-violent drug offenders languishing in prisons all over the land, and we spend Billions more every year to lock up pot smokers and drag brownie-eating cancer grannies off to jail by their hair.

I don't have a problem with Moussaoui being in jail; he ought to be there. Would that we reserved prison cells ONLY for the violent and dangerous, like him.
