Trent Lott on Iraqis: "They all look the same to me."
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:20 PM by Julius Civitatus
Republicans met with Bush and didn't even acknowledge there is a war going. Zilch, nada. Not a mention. It's only the peons that worry about such things...

He ends his interview by putting all middle eastern people in one big sack of ignorance and prejudice:

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/2006/09/lott-bush-barely-mentioned-iraq-in.html

Lott: Bush barely mentioned Iraq in meeting with Senate Republicans

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush barely mentioned the war in Iraq when he met with Republican senators behind closed doors in the Capitol Thursday morning and was not asked about the course of the war, Sen. Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, said.

"No, none of that," Lott told reporters after the session when asked if the Iraq war was discussed. "You're the only ones who obsess on that. We don't and the real people out in the real world don't for the most part."

Lott went on to say he has difficulty understanding the motivations behind the violence in Iraq.

"It's hard for Americans, all of us, including me, to understand what's wrong with these people," he said. "Why do they kill people of other religions because of religion? Why do they hate the Israeli's and despise their right to exist? Why do they hate each other? Why do Sunnis kill Shiites? How do they tell the difference? They all look the same to me."

War? What war?

6. Carter, Clinton, and Gore all raised in SoBapt church
The only presidents, vice-president who knew as children the meaning of the phrase 'born again Christian.'

And the three whom the RW and religious right have most viciously attacked.

Weird.

16. To bad
he didn't have a little wine and expanded on why people hate each other. I'd love to hear him open up on Jews and Black Americans. Have you ever talked to a Catholic that lived down there. We should never talk about HATE, deep down inside most Americans are just like Senator Allen and have a natural hate for anyone that's different then his family is.

15. Trent Lott is an American Hero
I have no doubt that if the evil Muslims were to come over and try and take over his home town, he'd take up arms to defend his church, and his town against the horde.

:sarcasm:

The fact that he's asking those questions belies his immense ignorance of the situation over there and shows that the Republican positions all too frequently are founded in an overt ignorance with no desire to actually understand a problem.

Trent Lott. American Hero.

Otherwise he couldn't care less that he has caused the deaths of so many innocent people including US troops that he doesn't seem to mind using as bait to protect his money interests in Iraq! 20. I'm NOT defending this scum
I do, however, recall reading just in the past few weeks articles talking about the sectarian violence (civil war) now taking place in Iraq. The article talked about the black market for false ID's. Iraqi's are buying ID's which have a name which is neutral in nature - not identifiably Shia or Sunni. The point was that this is NOT an ethnic division - it's a religious one.

Which one of you can look into a crowd and spot the Methodists as opposed to the Catholics?

24. That, in a nutshell, is why we're in the mess we're in.
King George and his felonious band of thugs never thought to differentiate between the sects because "they all look the same to me." Maybe that's where Lott picked up the phrase.

28. It's absolutely typical for Lott to be ignorant about this
Just as a "Mc" or a "Mac" might brand you Irish or Scottish, there are surnames in Iraq that brand you as Sunni or Shiite, and others that are shared by both. As another poster has commented, fake ID's bearing the latter sort of surname are in demand in Iraq. This has gotten a lot of press, and just goes to show what an ignorant SOB Lott is, and he's typical of Republicans in this regard. Republicans don't frickin know anything, and it's a good time to call them on it. (For example, my Dad was spouting off on how Democrats would raise taxes on the rich, and how this was bad, but when I asked him what the top rate was, he had no idea, and so I asked him how he could make any judgments on whether the rate is too high if he doesn't know what it is now. Poor, deluded tool. BTW, it's 35%.)

What I think is more telling is the comment that "You're the ones who obsess on that" comment. Perhaps if his fellow Republicans paid more attention to the occupation of Iraq it would be going better (I doubt it.) It reminds me of Bush's "I don't think a lot about him" comment in re Osama.

Once again, Lott uses the "real world" meme that Allen trotted out in his "Macacca" comments. It is a sign of the tenuousness of their actual position that the Republicans have had to re-brand the ideological fantasyland in which they reside "the real world." Which real world is that? The one wherein Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? The one where we would be greeted as liberators? The one wherein democracy would spread like wildfire throughout the Middle East? The one wherein Saddam Hussein was a participant in the 9-11 plot? The one wherein the president acted decisively to prevent 9-11 when he was told that Osama bin Laden was determined to attack in the US? Every time they trot out this tiresome lie, we should remind them who has lived in the real world, and who lives in an ideological fantasyland.

29. Actually, the most outrageous part was his first half of the statement,
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 03:26 PM by nealmhughes
directed to the press:

"No, none of that," Lott told reporters after the session when asked if the Iraq war was discussed. "You're the only ones who obsess on that. We don't and the real people out in the real world don't for the most part."

This signifies that "real people" don't care about our troops as cannon fodder, massacres and rapes, dozens killed daily at the market or else going about their daily business -- he is wrong. It is the Neocon press and the MegaCorp who doesn't care. The American workers do care. It is our sons, nephews and brothers and cousins who are in Iraq, not Trent, who whistled while Biloxi drowned.

Oh, Trent, you and your lot thought you could make Bush Louis
XIV, but when confronted with reality, realize that he and you are all Louis XV, and are just hoping that you don't rapidly go the way of the XVI...
Oh, Trent, you of pretty plastic hair and a war or weapons system you never not loved, try going onto the floors of the US factories (if you can find one open that your NAFTA/CAFTA hasn't closed or outsourced) and tell them that they don't care about Iraq. You might find yourself in a trumble...
