yet ANOTHER WAR??

do the people of this country really have a clue about this, or do Americans as a group not care?

what have you heard from your friends and cohorts? At work today, this subject raised barely a comment from anyone but me.

1. They Don't Care
I'd say a good third of Americans are basic MORONS. So no, they don't care, and even if they did, they wouldn't understand in the least.

You sound like a "Negative Nellie" in Sector 4.
You obviously need some "Re-Neducation."

4. No, the United States is gonna attack Iran.
You don't get to separate it by something as completely meaningless as political party.

The stain is on everyone. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US!

5. Unless you Have Internet
you never know what is going on. That's the problem. Nothing about any of this is ever told about in the media. The newspapers never print anything. The reason your fellow workers don't care, is mostly because they don't know. There has to be some way the press will wake up and start telling the American People what bush is doing to our country.

6. as musch as they may want they can't
for one, they really do not have the resources. They are spread too thin everywhere

They have also run out of time. The odds are quite good they will lose one of the houses, and once that happens, they will then have to follow the Constitution

14. No, they can do it tomorrow.
Not having enough resources didn't stop them in Iraq.

Draft boards can be convened in a few months, and they can pass that time with an air campaign.

These are dangerous people.

The effect would extend way beyond Iran to our allies.

30. The fallout would destroy the economy of Israel.
Not that that's a concern to people here, but it would poison everything in that area and then blow the cloud across the Mediterranean.

Not that Bush wouldn't do it, but the known world would instantly move to boycott American everything.

We'll be hated. Isolated. Economically screwed.

12. And for the short term...
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 12:34 AM by LaPera
The Republicans will prosper...the elections, then what...Iran will cut off their oil, Venezuela has promised Iran to do the same, Russia, (Iran's ally) it's to their advantage to to do the same...Iraq is in turmoil (can't keep stealing their oil without consequences) Will Libya & other (African nations) be sympathetic to our aggression? NO! BP won't be at full capacity till next year...

Then there's China, (Iran is their major oil provider) and the holder of our debt...

BushCo doesn't care, as long as they can avoid criminal prosecution by holding on to the republican majority...These fucks always think in the short term....

So where will our need for massive oil consumption come from?

Because only the poor will go to war, to protect the rich...been going on for centuries.

We certainly can't "nuke" them. Their proximity to our allies does not allow it.

20. My right wing GOP elitist friend would laugh her ass off
if you suggested her son be drafted for an Iranian war. No way. He'll go for every exemption there is or just disappear. Republican elitists do not do war. They "allow" the middle and lower class to do that as a hand up in our society.

You don't see any of the Bushes in Iraq, do you?

Middle-class families in worse shape than ever, study finds
Typical families have not stashed enough money; struggling to pay for home, insurance, and education according to Center for American Progress.
September 28 2006: 4:41 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The typical double-income family is worse off financially than ever, a study released Thursday said, warning that few Americans have saved enough to brace for financial setbacks.

Middle-class families are struggling to pay for a home, health insurance, transportation and their children's college with wages that have not kept pace with higher prices, according to the study by a think tank headed by a former top aide to President Bill Clinton.

The middle class's financial condition has been a key issue ahead of the November elections, as Democrats warn that this group is fast losing economic ground amid skyrocketing prices and tax cuts that offer them little benefit.

29. All China has to do is say it will not accept our worthless paper.
Right now, we cannot have a war without their at least tacit permission.

It's not that George won't give the order. It's not that Rummy won't give the order. It's just that we can't hold Baghdad. We have nothing to spare to annoy Iran.

Bush has brilliantly taught the world that the United States no longer has military superiority. Wasn't that clever of him?

And here we go again. HR 6198 passed TONITE. Do you really think Iran will respond well? And since they won't, do you really think Bush Cheney Rice and Rumsfeld will stop there???? Do you really think CONGRESS will stop them? They've been telegraphing their intentions for a very long time.

37. "Well, I don't know about Iran but..."
More true than you realize.

She probably --just realized for the first time-- when you told her,

that they are two separate countries with similar names.

I am dead serious.

And that is why no one will care.

A year from now, when our troops are bogged down fighting Iran,
on the battlefiueld of IRAQ, do a poll and you will discover that 50% of americans DO NOT DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THE TWO and think they are part of the same country we were fighting in before.

Does anyone have the clip from 1990, first Gulf War, where the chirpy news anchor said...?

"Today, the assault on Iran has begun."

26. Still asking: HOW?
Our military readiness is shot to shit.

We don't have the soldiers for an on the ground invasion.

We have been using air support crews for ground patrols. Our pilots and officers have been leaving the second they get an out. The rest are being kept in AGAINST THEIR WILL.

We have been wasting and using up war materiel at a great rate and can't actually afford to buy more. Especially not from nations already holding such substantial debt from us it might actually cripple them.

We can't make the war materiel on our own because we no longer have a steel or tool and die industry. We have to import replacement parts and vital computer bits and pieces.

We have NO ALLIES. Not even Britain will go along with this one.

So tell me HOW we are going to attack a nation of seventy million people give or take a million?

32. Most all analysts have said all along it would not be a ground war.
if or when. It would be airstrikes. Our airforce has had a nice long rest, comparatively speaking, in Iraq. We've had a lot of past links and threads on here about the readiness plans that have been demanded by Cheney, especially notable a year ago in August.

I'm sure we could call on a little extra help and cooperation from Israel, as well, since they're in the neighborhood.

33. Don't forget the Navy
The Eisenhower Strike Group is about to deploy to the Persian Gulf. Ostensibly this is to relieve the Abe Lincoln task group, currently on station there, but the departure of the Ike has been sped up a month, and minesweepers are already on the way. The Ike and entourage are due to arrive in the Persian Gulf Oct 21 or thereabouts.

Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 01:36 AM by sfexpat2000
they need to win the contracts.

Once they start the war, the contracts follow. And, the war, the country and our military can go to hell because BushCo isn't at all interested in those things.

I'm afraid that's a behavior that would be better ascribed to the psychopaths in charge in charge of our own regime. Nowhere did I say that I think they are sane or that I support their goals or thinking.
