How on EARTH is this woman sleeping nights?
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 05:26 AM by Bluebear

Happy? This is YOUR legacy, Madame Justice.

on edit: THE swing vote in Bush v Gore. A decision made in complete conflict with her philosophy of deference to the states. Then she was surprised by the uproar about the decision and worried about the legacy of how people would feel about the Court.

Then this year:

March 10, 2006 · Newly retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor took on conservative Republican critics of the courts in a speech Thursday. She told an audience at Georgetown University that Republican proposals, and their sometimes uncivil tone, pose a danger to the independence of the judiciary, and the freedoms of all Americans.

1. I doubt very much that she is...
given the health of her husband. Yes, I would like to be angry at her, but as a wife and mother I cannot blame her for putting her family first. It is what I would do if my husband were dying.

this woman helped install Chimpy.

4. I looked at it as two pronged. Installing...and then leaving.
We bear the blame for his position as well...for not screaming louder in November 2000, IMO.

9. I am 'surprised' that she could not see the evil in
Scalia & Thomas. Her respect for Rehnquist probably negeted any malicious feeling she had for him. She is probably going thru alot of soul-searching (I know that's a tough row to hoe for a republican).

6. How many other innocent people will share her husband's fate...
because of her actions? I'm not saying she hasn't a right to a personal life, but with so much at stake now.......maybe she doesn't see the urgency we see. Maybe she thinks the United States can survive the onslaught of RepubliCON Constitution shredders in her absence. Who knows? I wish she would have postponed her retirement for a few years until "Little Boots" is out of office though.

7. I wish I had the nerve to take to the streets...then(2000) and now...
But we cannot place the blame on one person. We are all responsible. :(

8. Who knew, Mrs.?
Who knew.

I thought we would endure 4 years of low expectations, low results, but low damage. Then "9/11 changed everything".

on this woman to help them, millions of people needed her, their lives set on her decisions.
As they said on the Enterprise so many times, the needs of the many out weighted those of the few though it would be a very difficult choice to make for sure.......

all the dead in Iraq
all the dead from 9/11
all the dead from Afghanistan
all the people who will die early because the went to ground zero
because the EPA was told to tell them the air was clean
all the dead who died needlessly because bush took the money from
the levees around New Orleans for his Iraq war
the soul of Ray Lemme (Florida Dept. of Transportation investigator who
was following up on Clint Curtis' story about Jeb Bush, Tom Feeney, and
others who running the bush crime mob there)
Marvin Bush's maid who died shortly after 9/11

Even as a non lawyer my head still throbs when I think of
Justice Scalia's ruling that; "If the recount goes ahead in Florida that W
runs a significant chance of embarrassment."

Sandy knew what she was doing was b.s.. Because she also wrote that
the Court's ruling in Bush v Gore could not be used in legal
challenges before or after B v G.

Thanx Sandy!
War, Torture, Wire Taps, Bogus Elections, Bogus news, debt, and the
destruction of the middle class those are your legacies.

BTW if by some small chance an NSA person or repug/Rove operative is
reading this, how do you sleep?

11. She Made Her Deals With The Devil
Sandy's on a "victory lap" tour and is "warning" us about the right wing's attempts at perverting the judiciary. Duh! Like this was a hidden secret in Dec, 2000? Like she didn't realize what hounds she unleashed when she voted to do the "extra-constitutional" dirty deed of hopping into the Florida recount and make sure her retirement was assured by voting in boooshie. Sorry Sandy, you also knew when you retired that the boooosh cabal would send up some wingnut and further erode the separation of powers and that coveted independent judiciary.

A more civil tone, Madame ex-Justice? Why say that to us? Take that message into a mega church...say it in the face of a James Dobson or onto Faux Noise. We don't need to be lectured, take this dog and pony show where it might be new and novel.
