1. EXCELLENT!
 :woohoo: :applause:
Show this at nearest mega-church. Good Work. One more thing Jesus would tell these "Christians" who support this. "Depart from me, you workers of iniquity, I know you not."

2. We're not a Christian nation, for one thing.
For another, the Middle Ages argue against the premise.

7. An ostrich with it's head in the sand
Whether officially written in government pamphlets or not we are indeed a Christian nation. The great majority of the population of America claim to be Christian and that fact makes this country a Christian nation. We need to acknowledge that fact and work to guide America in a way that does not discriminate against other religions or those with no religion. It is a fact that we are a Christian nation but what exactly that means is up for examination. Christians are not supposed to torture others as Jesus has directed. Jesus has given his words as a way to govern our own lives but are those words followed by supposed "Christian" leaders? I have absolutely no problem with the majority of Americans being "Christian". I have a problem with our government dictating Christianity to all, which so far it does not do, and I have a problem with those that claim the mantle of Christianity while doing the exact opposite of what Christ says to do...If only more "true Christians" would speak out.....

8. I won't accept that. The constitution makes no mention of Christ
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:17 AM by BurtWorm
or even church. Yes, the majority of Americans claim to be Christian (now), but to call this a Christian nation is as misleading as to call it a white nation--or in a few years a Hispanic nation.

And you didn't address the key point, which is that nations that really are Christian have used torture for centuries. Look at France in the 18th Century, before the revolution defrocked the Church as the established religion. It's partly because of the church's propensity to torture alleged atheists and apostates that it became a target of the revolution. And the church in France was far from being alone in using torture as a tool to punish heretics and other enemies of the state.

9. "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God...
"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

You are correct that America is not a Christian Nation but it is a nation alledgely populated by an overwhelming 75% majority of those who claim they are Christians. One would think some of those values would eventually make thier way into public discourse and eventually translate into a contract among people that honored the values of Christ. Say what you want about "Christians" but Christ would not approve of his name being used as a marketing ploy for ravenous wolves...

10. But they're not claiming to be torturing on behalf of Jesus, are they?
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:53 AM by BurtWorm
There are more relevant, less muddled ways to deal with this issue than to bring Jesus into it, in my opinion.

3. Oh Mike, that's not fair to use their (my) religion to show how far they
are short in living up to its tenets. They don't really mean to take all of the Bible literally - just the parts that condone the acts and issues they want to foist on others - and here you go and turn it back on them.

;)

TIC (tongue in cheek)

6. Hell, don't just put it on a t-shirt, put it on a billboard!
Because that is the central question that cannot be resolved. How can people who consider themselves Christians reconcile their support for an alleged "Christian" leader who approves of torture with the worship of their Saviour who was tortured to death?

Every so-called Christian should be asked that question. Every so-called Christian member of Congress should be asked that question.

If they are really Christians, they have DAMNED themselves with their support of torture.
