March, 2007: The Democratic-controlled Congress repeals the detainee act

Handshakes all around as Russ Feingold congratulates the other Democratic senators and the couple of Republicans who worked hard to undo this terrible bill. House Majority leader Nancy Pelosi tells reporters, "This nation can breath a sigh of relief, knowing that we will both hunt down and kill and capture the terrorists who wish to harm us, and our citizens will not have their fundamental rights taken away. It took us a few months after the act was signed back in late September to get all this done, but fortunately, the American people placed their trust in us in the November elections. We will continue working hard for the American people and after..."

Wait. Stop. Hold on.

That didn't happen. Apparently, a few easily-discouraged DUers of dubious character either got apathetic or convinced others to be, and the Republicans ended up keeping the majority in Congress. Oh, well...
